Dropped A Rod And Reel In Water Off A Boat
12 feet in murky water? I dunno. I tried and did consider going in but the water was cold and visibility was like 6 inches. I slept on it and feel a little better I guess. The stories you guys had helped a bit!

Dropped A Rod And Reel In Water Off A Boat
So... went fishing today on the Potomac. Last day this season on my Dad's boat and I was casually fishing with my Shimano Core 50 and a Kistler KLX when I made a cast and upon switching hands... *splash*. Sank like a rock. I tried to use quick reflexes but I was too late. I only got down enough to see it disappear into the abyss for a split second. I tried using a treble hook and a weight to get it off the bottom but it's like 12 feet there and after 20 minutes no luck. SUCKS. I just downsized my arsenal too (as some of you guys saw in the flea market) cause I needed the money. OMG I can't explain the pain.

Long Fish Battle
I hooked a striped bass on a creek off the Potomac River. Fought it for about 15 minutes on 10lb fluoro. Ended up getting it in and it weighed just under 14 pounds. Also snagged a carp with a crankbait. Fought it about 15 minutes until it got close to the boat and I could use a net to get the crankbait out.

Potomac River Snakehead Fishing
Great info Snakehead Whisperer! You know your stuff. In regards to the Anacostia. I remember reading an article in the post about eating fish from there and there were fisherman interviewed that said they eat large catfish from there on a regular basis. Wow is all I have to say to that. I value my health and sanity so I will pass on that. I fish from Ft.Belvoir to Aquia so while I am familiar with the areas you stated had no clue about fishing there. The spots I've had luck with Snakehead are Aquia Creek, Mattawoman Creek (my biggest at 11lbs), and Chopawamsic.

What Is Wrong With The Potomac River???
It just shows when we have a good thing we either ruin it or need laws to contain it. The Blue Crab is a perfect example. Oh by the way, went fishing again yesterday. Not a bite. I really hope they have a tournament one day and everyone comes back empty handed. Teach them a lesson.

What Is Wrong With The Potomac River???
Yes! The tournaments on the weekend are just plain ridiculous. I don't even go fishing on the weekend anymore. You should see Leesylvania on the weekend of a tournament. LONG line to use ONE of two ramps and both parking lots pretty much full. I've also seen them leaving Smallwood on the same day. Just crazy. Stupid really.

What Is Wrong With The Potomac River???
I've been fishing twice this week and caught NOTHING. One bite. To be fair though last year in March (with the abnormally warm weather) was insane. My partner and I caught between 50-60 bass one day. I doubt I will ever have a day like that ever again.

Potomac River Snakehead Fishing
Two subspecies are distinguished – C. a. argus originating from China and Korea and C. a. warpachowskii originating from eastern Russia. I got that from Wikipedia. Anyway, I use a icepick. One good whack on the head and they are done for. Then two plastic shopping bags and in the live well it goes. I do like the fish and I am a protect animals and the environment kind of guy but they have confirmed a virus that kills LM Bass and is spread by snakeheads. That's not good news. I think the kill on catch is good. Won't ever eliminate them as a whole but the population can be somewhat controlled.

Potomac River Snakehead Fishing
I dunno... you could be right but the heads are shaped different too. The fins go farther up the body on the top one. I did some research a while back and there actually is a different pheneotype (not sure if that is the right term) from China and Russia. Not sure if this applies here but just a thought.

Potomac River Snakehead Fishing
I saw one in the Potomac earlier this season that dwarfed a 8-pounder I caught yesterday. It surfaced about 5 feet from the boat, seemed to look at me, then slowly and quietly submerged. My jaw almost hit the water. I don't even want to know how big it was. I tried to post a pic of the 8-pounder but it's on my Android phone and my Apple computer is having none of it.

Thought I Caught My Biggest Bass Ever On A Jig, But It Was A Catfish (Picture)
Looks like a channel cat but here in NOVA the blue catfish are usually the ones to go after lures.

Why The Heavy Flippin Stick Craze. I'm Staying Mh
I have a Kistler KLX heavy I use for frogging. Its BARELY thicker than the MH Zbone I have. Barely noticeable. I prefer a MH for flipping. That being said I only use the heavy for frogging. Also, some companies have different specs and what they call it. I had a St.Croix tournament labeled as medium and it was exactly the same size as my MH Zbone. Same goes for my Xtreme.

Limitations Of 50 Series Baitcaster
A Daiwa PX for frogging? Oh the humanity!

Daiwa Tatula Baitcaster
When is its release date? Anyone know?

Daiwa Tatula Baitcaster
Have you guys seen this reel? The buzz seems to be around the new Chronarch but the Tatula looks just as cool IMO. Its 100 bucks cheaper and a bit heavier... Seems Daiwa is trying to improve the TWS with this reel. Very cool how it flips up and down. I'm wondering if this will start becoming a staple for Daiwa.

Brand Loyalty
I love Shimano reels but the rods don't do it for me. Love Daiwa reels but never used a Daiwa rod. I like Abu reels but never used a rod. I like Kistler rods especially the KLX. I used to spend 200-300 on a rod but now I try to stay under 200. I personally think the KLX is a game changer when it comes to pricing rods. St.Croix is awesome. I have a Xtreme and it's the best rod I've ever used. GLoomis is great too but I feel it's a littler overrated. That pretty much sums it up for me.

Which Bearings Are The Best?
I have replaced several of my reels with Boca orange seals. I take the seals off and use oil. NOT lube. Lube I found is good for gears but oil works better. I bought a T3 off eBay and it had some other upgraded bearings that were not Boca Bearings. I think they are from Japan. Anyway I am starting to have doubt whether they actually improve casting distance but they do make the spool spin longer when you "free spool"

Daiwa Zillion Type R Vs. Shimano Core 51 For Frogging / Flipping
I briefly used the Core 50 for frogging. Now I am using a Zillion (not the R). The Core 50 is completely capable of doing it but I would imagine the Zillion type R is a better choice.
