Fishing my local dam today and the water was way down, bout a foot lower than normal. This exposed some plant life near the bank, and as I lifted my spinnerbait out of the water from my first cast, I looked down three foot ahead of me and saw a Devil's Horse lodged into the branch of some plant sticking out of the water.  It has a black back with black stripes and a white bottom.  Fairly decent shape all things considered.  One thing I noticed is the points of the treble  hooks all have a slight bend at the tip of them.  Never seen that before.

Interesting. If you hover over the image you get a bigger picture on the right and some of the hooks look like they bend outward and others look inward.

Hooks that bend in near the point are typical of Eagle Claw.

Lucky craft liked it so much they spawned the Kelly J. Slightly different profile but highly similar. Like Jeff said they don't work!

There are 3 of these types of lures I use:
 

Devil's Horse I grew up on.  That being said, the hardware leaves much to be desired.

 

Lucky Craft Splash Tail, which is much better hardware, but sits lower in the water

 

Live Target Blue Back Herring double prop.  Like this one a lot, but for some reason the line likes to get wrapped in the props.  It has the best big fish appeal though.....

The Devils Horse in that color you found is a killer anywhere but the hardware is behind the times. I use a prop bait a lot in mid sprig over pea gravel flats for river smallmouth and I found a bait that is like a finesse version of the devls horse, it is called a Dying Flutter, they make one that is clear and when fished in clear water it will out produce just about anything else but they are discontinued so I have to be desperate to throw it.

They've got obsolete hook hangers, just like my beloved Jitterbugs. It's mind-boggling that they go so many years without updating their product, but it costs money and we fishermen are too accepting and don't put enough pressure on the manufacturers.

Would a split ring addition and a hook change be significantly beneficial?
