Initiating Youngest Grandson

Featured Replies

This evening I took my youngest grandson( 5yr.) fishing for the first time with his 7 yr. old brother. We went to a friends pond and they had a good time. They threw" Excite", soft jerkbaits. The youngest caught 7 and his brother caught 13. There wasn't one over 1 1/2 lbs. but those kids sure got excited catchin' them. I love making these memories!

WTG Stitch. That sounds like a lotta fun for both you & the kids.

That is what it is all about.  I am sure many here can relate to getting the bug early on in life by catching fish right away!  Kudos to you for putting them on fish!

At that age, it's all about catching as many fish as you can.  It's great to do that just to see them get excited.  Gives you great memories and they grow up and start learning how to fish instead of catching fish.

This year, my son had a blast learning how to fish slow.  He's 14 now and I'm showing him a new presentation.  Before this, he's learned swimbait, crank, lipless crank, spinners, spoon, jerk, and top water frogs, but nothing slow.  I've bought him a better rod so that he can feel the bottom and learn how a fish swallow a crawling/drop lure.  It's an all new excitement and flare to him.
