Been murdering 'em on this bait the last few weeks but have also lost a few to pike/musky, including 1 color that is no longer made. Anyway, Academy has them for $5.99 with free shipping on orders of $39.00 or more. Just loaded up. Just thought I'd put this out there for any other fans.

 

These are well made lures that come with good sharp hooks.  Build consistency is there, too, which is important to me.  I like them almost as much as my prized Arukus.

Never tried the Aruku but heard they are top notch. Do they make a one knocker like the Xcalibur or Clackin Rap? Be worth a try.

Lipless cranks are usually burned over where the fish may be lurking. Just something about them makes a bass have to have it. Billed cranks are usually fished on or near the bottom or through cover aka squarebills.

I picked up a few of these as well last week at Cabela's when they were on clearance for $2.99. Got some of the Xr50s, Xr75s and Xr100s. Can't wait to get out and see how they do. 

To me, the main difference between lipless and diving (lipped) cranks is that most lipless cranks sink. This lets me cast the bait out, let it sink to the desired depth, then start to retrieve. It can be fished anywhere from just off of the bottom to just barely under the surface. I can also stop the bait mid-retrieve and let it sink, then rip it, let it sink, rinse and repeat. Bass (and other fish) have a tough time resisting a falling bait. It's a deadly tactic.

I think the discontinued BPS/XPS TOPNOCKER topwater lure is so successful because of its one loud single knocker. I believe it was the first lure like this of its time. After seeing my success with this lure I purchase any lure that has this one knocker system. I notice I can call fish to it from any distance too. I try to buy my bomber spooks in a low pitch rattle and In a high pitch rattle too. Plus these new rattle trap type lures. The fish can hear.

These are great lipless baits and I got a deal last year as Cabelas was blowing them out for $1.99 so I grabbed 15, the only reason I didn't get more was I got the only 2 colors I wanted, lemon lime and Tilapia, and they never came back down to that price again but check them out, they often have these for $2.99.

Thats a steal! Gotta watch Cabelas more often.
