Hooks On Rat-L-Trap

Featured Replies

I got my 1/2 oz Rat-L-Trap snagged on a piece of rope today. After I got the snag loose, I realized one of the treble hooks had come off and the other was bent. Can someone tell me what make and size trebles come on a 1/2 oz Rat-L-Trap or recommend a suitable replacement hook?

Go with an appropriately sized Mustad KVD Elite EWG treble, they are truly an outstanding treble, especially compared to the stock hooks on Traps.

If I recall correctly, the standard 1/2 oz. Trap had a #4 on the belly and a #6 in back, or possibly two #4's.

I put #3 or #4 on mine but I believe they come with a 4 on the belly and a 6 on the back.

Lewis rattle traps usually come with 2 #4 KVD short shank Mustads

I've noticed inconsistencies on Lewis traps in terms of hook quality. The red chrome and transparent traps I bought had really nice hooks that didn't need replaced, whereas the gold/black back and chrome/blue ones I bought had crappier hooks by comparison.

The traps with the nicer hooks were comparable to Mustad #4 short shanks, so that's what I swapped on the others.

^ Correct answer.
