I took the plunge... ordered a Matt Lures Hardgill & Tylures Gill

Featured Replies

I ordered a Matt Lures Hard Gill yesterday along with a Ty Lures Bed Bait Bluegill. If anyone has any familiarity with either bait I would appreciate any tips that you may have. Thanks

Good deal, man.

I have both of these baits, and love them both. You'll definitely get more fish with the Tylure based on its size, but if you stick it out with the Hardgill, more than likely you will have to hold on.

I have only one fish on the gill and 3 on the kicker. The way the fish hit the gill was unreal, like it had slept with its mother and ate its children. Ridiculous. What sink rates did you get?

I was deadsticking a floater kicker gill the other night and had a fish have a change of heart at the last minute and "swooshed" away. Then I saw another two bass near it and scope it out. Pretty cool to see.

They can both be fished slow, but the mattlures has a better action when burned, but I haven't really felt the need to have to burn it. Both can be turned 180 degrees and twitched to change direction from side to side. Good luck, let us know how you do.

oops. just saw you got the bed bait. Have this one too. No fish on it yet, but haven't fished it much. I wouldn't hesitiate throwing this on the outside edges of a brush pile in deeper water and jig it back. It has a pretty good swimming action at a straight retreive, too.

I ordered the slow sink Matt's bait. The Tylure I was planning on fishing it in similiar situations as I would a Red Eye Shad. I saw an article written by  Tyler Ream the owner of Tylure and I get the impression that it still maintains a swimming motion as you jig it up and down and that it sits on it's nose if you let it sit on the bottom. With the hooks being on Top of the lure it should be somewhat weedless if fished in moderate cover.

I already have the regular Tylures Bluegill bait but I haven't used it yet but I plan on giving all these baits a good workout in the fall as a follow-up to lipless cranks to give the fish a different look and hopefully with the bigger Matt's bait take a shot at a lunker.

I've caught 10 inch bass on the Hardgill.

It can be a numbers bait in the right situation.

Good choices.

The hard gill floater has been a numbers fish on "noontime" pond this week.  Two days ago, 14 fish in about an hour.  two were 3+, the rest were dinks.  Its pretty obvious what the prevalent food source is in this pond, LOL.
