Buzzbait Blade Color

Featured Replies

What is the main difference between a buzzbait with a silver blade and a gold blade? I noticed that Cavitron uses gold blades instead of silver on their white buzzbaits and I have heard a lot of good about Cavitron so I was just wondering.

To catch you. Lol.

I really don't think it would make a difference. I don't think the fish have time to think/ look at it.

There most likely work of the assumption that folks will by one just like gold blades on spinner baits for low visibility.

Though. It could also be that the finish holds up better.

I don't no.

There used to be a video online showing what a buzzbait looks like from under water. I've looked for this video several times to no avail.

Basically if it's buzzing, the fish can't see the blade. All you can really see is the water churning around it.

Not sure if that's the same vid, but it illustrates the point pretty well.

We'll probably never know whether it's because of the color, your confidence in the color, or something  else entirely; but it really doesn't matter if it works for you. I have one old buzzbait with a white blade that slays em, and another that is very similar with a silver blade that works but not as well. It could be the color or it might be some other subtlety of the action that makes it work better than the other. Who knows besides the fish?

I seen blade colors make a difference, counter rotating make a difference, clackers make a difference.

I must say though that I usually only throw buzz baits at night.

On a buzzbait I could never see why blade color or finish could be important if it gives you confidence it is important. It may also throw off flash under the water that may or may not play a part in drawing fish to the bait but it could possibly work. I know with spinnerbaits, I have noticed a big difference in catch rates when using gold blades in both clear and overcast conditions and by being able to duplicate results it leads me to believe there is something to blade finish. I noticed during overcast days gold blades on a spinnerbait out produce nickel or silver blade spinnerbaits by 3 to 1 and sometimes higher. On clear or sunny days the silver or nickel blades did better than than the gold by the same margins, this is on average over a course of 6 years and keeping track. There were odd ball days for both sides were the gold was better than silver on clear days and were silver was better than gold on overcast days, but for the most part  the gold on overcast and silver on clear days held true so I can see it maybe being like that with a buzzbait to some extent but there I think sound along speed and other factors play a bigger part than blade color or finish.

Never really seen a difference. Tried black at night, gold on overcast days, and no noticible difference. Catt is on to something in the blade style or # of blades. I use mostly double bladed baits like the Persuader. Contrary to what Cavitron says, you can fish any double blade buzzbait slower. Now, if you want to start a discussion on skirt colors..........

Me personally I love the black Buzz baits with black blades. I've had really good success in the past and last year I caught a lot! I like the 1/4 oz cavitron black skirted buzz bait. I've had under a pound bass hit it up to 6 pounds hit it. Doesn't matter the color as they all said it's how the action of the water goes through the blades with the 3 holes. It slows the blade down making more effective. If your looking at the cavitron this means your going to buy one lol.

White only. :D

I think it's all in the sound. Playing with the double blades as well but can't hit on a day they will take them consecutive. To see.
