JSJ Dirty Bird

Featured Replies

I do not have a rod or reel suitable for throwing a 3oz. bait, but does anyone own the JSJ Dirty Bird? It is such an interesting idea to me. I saw a fish blow up on a small duck once so I'm assuming a fish would eat a small bird, but how often would they go after one that's eight inches long?

I don't think the fish would know that it's a bird.

I'm not saying that it couldn't catch fish, but it's not going to catch them because it looks like a blackbird.

Bass can't see a lure that's on the surface well enough to know what it is.

I wouldn't spend that much money on something that could be replaced by a Spook or a Buzzbait. JMO

Over here it's not too uncommon, I've seen a handful of photos with bird legs sticking out of a big fish's throat.

Yup, in some of the park lakes I fish, during the spring, ducks will have the babies swimming behind the adults, there could be 5 one day, and 4 or even 3 left the next day. I've seen a bass try to snag one, although she missed, they do and will eat anything they think they can swallow.

As for JSJ, it's seems more of a buzz bait, with a bird body, however, if you don't try it, you'll never know if it will get you a toad.. :)

I would much rather spend $70 on 7 or 8 different quality buzzbaits than to spend money on one ridiculous looking lure like this.  It seems to me that this is one of those money-making ideas rather than a true fish-catcher.

I think you would be better served to wait on some reviews before spending that much money on a lure. :)

I won't be buying a 70 dollar bird at any point in the foreseeable future haha. I was just curious

This... $70?

I have never fished the dirty bird but JSJ makes high quality baits. They are all hand made and painted. Nothing is skimped on. Watch the demo this is not just like a buzz bait.

I could see that possibly working as a nice musky bait.

there a pond I always  go to and I always see ducks/brids getting harassed a fish/ or possible a snake???

but for $70 ...I would be scared to even throw it in the water.

LOL you could buy real birds to use as bait for that. :)

Seriously I guess if you have a pile of money and don't want to give it to me... Buy this.

As for the cost its all in how you look at it. What do spend on baits like senko's that only last a few fish? On a good day you can blow through several bags easy. This particular bait floats and would be pretty hard to lose (I do not know how it would hold up to toothy critters) using the right gear. Taking in to consideration the amount of potential use you will get out of a bait puts things in to perspective and can help justify the cost. There was a post a while back called some thing like what would you do to catch a DD. People that posted said they would do crazy and outlandish things yet people shy away a the price tags on quality big baits. :) Most of the big baits I have purchased over the last few years I still have. The right rod, reel, line, a good bait knocker and retying regularly are critical. You will lose some. That's just the way it is. I have donated way more in senko's, jigs and other conventional tackle over the same time period. With that said upwards of 70% of the all fish I have caught over 5lbs have come on big baits.

After watching the vid, I can see that what I thought was a buzzbait type attachment at the rear, was not..old eyes, even with glasses suck..lol
