Water Temps

Featured Replies

I had never fished in the fall until this year. Was hoping to catch some decent fish when the fish were fattening up for the winter I never did experience the feeding frenzy that so many had talked about. My water temps have now gotten into the 58 degree range. Just trying to come up with a game plan for the rest of the fall. Is this chart somewhat accurate?? What do you guys do different.

Depends a lot on where you live don 'tcha think ?  :-?

Water in my neck of the woods seldomly gets cold below 60° F, only high above the sierra it gets to 55° F. So the term "fall" is a matter of interpretation.

Around here they seem to go after moving baits the best.  I use spinner baits, cranks, and swim jigs the most.  I throw a t-rigged plastic if nothing else works.

Water here is in the low 80's still. It's all relative to where you live. Fish get acclimated to the body of water that they're in. Your fish up in WV are getting ready to slow down for the winter. Our fish down here are getting ready to gorge themselves for the spawn.

You could use it as a rough guideline, but I wouldn't take it overly seriously. For example, they include topwater plugs at 65°, but apparently exclude poppers since they say at 70° you can add poppers and buzzbaits. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Like any other time, concentrate on locating the fish, then figure out what it takes to get them to bite.
