Need Help Finding The Correct Prop

Featured Replies

Aluminum prop needing to replace has the following stamped on it.

48-77350-C1-23

I want to get a stainless steel prop. I Had a quicksilver prop on it (48 72760A4 23P) that ran a couple hundred rpms over max and now appears to be spun. Hub is stuck in prop so I can't remove it. Not sure that was the right prop or not but I ran it 3 years before this happened with no issues. Now rpms go way up and the motor stops pushing the boat if I get above a certain rpm while in the hole. I have another hub, but need the correct SS Prop to put on it. Is this the right prop to put back on it? If not, How do I find the right prop?

Motor is a 1998 Force (by Mercury) 120 HP outboard

Same problem I've run into using similar prop selectors. The 1998 Force 120 HP engine isn't listed.

Whatever you do don't take it to that A-hole on Interstate Drive.  I won't give him any business.

Go talk to the guys at the Merc. repair shop past the theater on Jefferson towards 111.

I checked around on iboats looking at that motor you've got the hard part, the right hub.  The force gearcase is just bigger.

There you go!

Make sure your motor is the 15 spline thru hub exhaust!

Ha! I know what you mean. They not only rip you off but the are A-holes too. At least that one guy is.

I wait for his wife to be around.  She's much easier to deal with.  I converted my small boat's motor from a 20 HP to a 30 HP (changing the carb/intake/lines) this year, he was nothing but a complete jerk when I was asking for advice.  They just have loads of parts in stock and get stuff next day, otherwise I wouldn't use them.

It's been a while since I've had a hub replaced but my it's not that expensive, less than $100. It' not something you can usually do yourself because they are pressed in.

The last two digits in that number are the pitch, so a 23" pitch prop is what you are looking for.

Changing from an aluminum to a stainless prop should keep about the same pitch, but there should be a noticeable gain in performance. If the motor was only a couple hundred over max, I would stay with that pitch, you will get much better hole shot and performance when the boat is loaded.
