Loomis NRX+ 844c MBR
What does everyone throw on it? I know jigs and t-rigs, spinnerbaits, chatter baits. Anything else? Anyone thrown 3” to 4” Keitechs on it?

Looking at Loomis NRX+ 844C MBR…
Great, thanks. Are there any dealers we can order from online that sell below the MSRP of $650 on the NRX+ rods? There used to be, just wanted to check and see.

Looking at Loomis NRX+ 844C MBR…
I want it for 3/8 and 1/2 oz football jigs and apparently they are all the rage for that application over at TB. I also like the idea of the soft tip and solid backbone halfway down the rod. I have an old Smallmouth Guru rod from All Pro that fishes like that in a medium. Wondering if anyone has fished both and can say yay or nay to that comparison? I know the NRX is going to be much more sensitive as I have an NRX+ 852s, so I know what I’m getting there, but I’ve never fished the MBR action. I’d mainly use for football jigs, but also would like to do 3/8 heads with keitechs as well on it. Is this possible or are they too stiff to throw the keitechs? Should I be looking at the 843C MBR? I have the 894C JWR in the GLX and I know that’s way stouter than what I’m looking for here.

Why did they stop making 5:1 power gear ratio baitcasting reels?
You simply cannot crank on 6.3 or higher and do what I’m doing. It’s too tiring to do for 8 hours. None of us care about sudden death/drag/drifting. It doesn’t come into play for what I’m doing. Not even bass fishing here bud. You have no idea what I’m doing, therefore have no idea what i need or what matters relating to the technique. Thanks, yeah checking those out as well.

Why did they stop making 5:1 power gear ratio baitcasting reels?
Not for what I’m doing. Not using any of those baits for this. It’s strictly for deep cranking. It’s of zero concern for what I’m going to use it for.

Why did they stop making 5:1 power gear ratio baitcasting reels?
I’m cranking a deep running cb (14-16 feet) for 8 hours straight so a 6.3 will wear you the heck out. Even worse the faster you get. The rule of thumb for what I’m doing is the slower the better. Slack control is of no concern, nothing about what I’m doing calls for speed. Speed kills your chances in this case. I currently use 4.7:1 pro qualifiers and a 5.1 older Orro Winch. Just have a couple that need replacing. I may just pull the trigger on a gen 5 revo winch. Thanks all.

Why did they stop making 5:1 power gear ratio baitcasting reels?
Which model? Found a Tatula, are they smooth? Looked at Bantam MGL 6.3 was slowest they had. I need slow, power, and very smooth with good casting and braking. That just doesn’t make sense to me. Did everyone stop deep cranking?

Why did they stop making 5:1 power gear ratio baitcasting reels?
I’ve looked at Okuma, Shimano, Lews, etc. Couldn’t find any in Okuma, Lews has the cheap LFS and found 1 Shimano in 200k that have it. What changed that caused them to stop making the 5 power gear reels?

Boat electronics setup recommendations
I need new units. I have 5 year old HDS units, one doesnt work any longer. I'm familiar so for down imaging and side imaging, HDS Live is what I'm looking at, but I really want a unit that does the front facing sonar and keep hearing that Garmin Livescope is the way to go for that. Looking for suggestions on setup based on experiences with Livescope vs ActiveTarget. Not opposed to the Hummingbird either. Also, can the new HDS Live units utilize the shoot thru hull transducer for the 2D sonar that I have been using with my HDS Gen 3 or will I need a new one installed in hull?

Opinions on G loomis NRX 852s JWR
How often do they break? Didnt realize that was an issue with these.

Opinions on G loomis NRX 852s JWR
I've been contemplating this rod for neds, senkos, small swimbaits, shakeyheads. If its rated at such light weights how does it have trouble getting good casting distance? Is the parabolic bend that much less than that of the 872s? Also, is there an online shop/dealer somewhere that anyone can recommend that I can get a better price on an NRX than Tackle Warehouse?

Which rod for 6, 8, 10 XD's
Looking for deep crank rod. New 7'6" zodias glass rod or 7'11' kvd tour? What do you use? Prefer 1 rod that can handle all 3 fishing ledges.

Diawa Tatula SV TWS or curado 70?
For casting lighter lures like shad rap #7's or lighter jerk baits which do you prefer? I have the curado 70 so I'm familiar with it, but have not tried a diawa reel in a long time and never one of their bait casters.

G Loomis GLX 894c JWR
I don't think I've ever seen Shimano go on sale before they close their stuff out to make new stuff. Wish I could find one 25% off!!! Thanks to all for the input. GLX it is. Wouldn't you know it, now that I made my mind up, Tackle Warehouse is out of stock on the 894.

G Loomis GLX 894c JWR
Is the NRX worth the extra $125 over the new GLX series? I've heard they are very close.

G Loomis GLX 894c JWR
I'm looking to get one high end Loomis rod. I'd like to use this mostly for Jigs, Texas Rigs, and Carolina Rigs. Curious if this is the best choice to cover that range. Would love to hear from some of you who own GLX rods who can weigh on on this subject. Thanks!

Okuma TCS Rods
I bought the 6'9 MH apc and the M+ shakeyhead rod. Guy I know vouched that shakeyhead rod was among the best. I did throw 1/2 oz weight a mile in the yard with the 6'9" so I will test it out this wknd Martin says it's good for spinners to I have just always used a less limber tip with those.

Okuma TCS Rods
Anyone use these? Curious about a the 6'9" APC MH rod. Scott says in his video it's a crank bait rod, but the cranking rod description is on the 6'6" and 7' M+ rods. The MH says "APC" (not sure what that stands for) and also says for lures as small as 1/8 oz when the M+ Is only 3/8 oz on the light end. Curious how that can be the case and which rods others have used and what application?

Yamaha S.H.O. or Mercury Pro XS?
I'm about to buy a new Phoenix 618 and am deciding whether to go with 175 Merc 2 stroke Pro XS or the 4 stroke Yamaha SHO. I know the advantage is not having to use oil in the fuel mix. What are the disadvantages? I'm upgrading from a 98 force on a combo so I need advice from those of you with experience with the new motors.

Swim Baits? Help?
What about the 8" trout huddelstons? http://www.***.com/Huddleston_Deluxe_8_Trout/descpage-HD8T.html#multiview Lots of rainbows in the lake i fish. I'm just not sure where to fish it or what season is best? is it used much in late spring/summer? Should I fish the steep channel bluffs with it?

Swim Baits? Help?
How/where/when do you fish the 6" and larger swim baits? I fish the 3-5" paddle tail baits on medium/MH tackle all the time, but I'm interested if I should even try the bigger baits where I fish. Deep clear highland reservoirs mostly. There are some 8-10 pounders where I fish, but we don't have the numbers of larger fish that they do out in TX or CA, where I think this technique may be more popular. But still, I think I might like to experiment a little on my home lake and was looking for tips on structure to fish, when is the best time of the year to fish it, etc. I assume you fish deep and slow like you do the smaller swim baits? But where and when?

What Do You Throw Your Deep Divers On
Really like the Shimano Crucial crank bait rods. Ducketts make a fine CB rod also. 5.4:1 gear ratio or slower. I have a Lews TP, a BB1, and a BPS PQ. The new Curados are nice as well if you can find one.
