Duckett Casting Reels

Featured Replies

I heard on MLF's website that Duckett was going to launch a line of baitcasting reels, and I think soon. Does anyone have any inside information? Would love to know... Thanks!

My guess is the new Duckett reels are more of the same OEM reels as are currently sold under the Abu Garcia, BPS, Browning, Lew's, and Pflueger brands.   Spy shots:                   Certainly

When I first saw the post I had to read it twice lol. Duckett Reels, sounds very interesting.

I know theyve been putting a lot of work into them. Hopefully, they'll be well worth it! But I'm hoping someone on here has info.

probably relabels with some flash.......nothing wrong with that, just saying........unless it is new carbonfiber pixy dust composite it is really hard to reinvent the wheels when it comes it reels.

Once he got dropped by Abu/berkely before last year he mentioned doing this. It really is amazing how many rod company's are coming out with reels to match their rods. Halo, 13, duckett etc

duckett is passionate about the sport. he doesnt need the money so im sure hell come out with some affordable quality reels

Certainly looks like a Revo.

Thats the stuff I'm looking for!!! As far as "reinventing the wheel", I think thats uneccessary. As long as the reel PERFORMS, its worth a try. Looks like a spinning reel behind him, too.

Yup...I had the opportunity to marshal with Boyd during the Mississippi River Elite Tournament and I can confirm that those were the right reels.  In all honesty, they look like a combination of a zillion and a revo, if that makes any sense.

However, the ones he used were painted blue and black...but were to be sold as white.  That way, people wouldn't notice it as easy and wouldn't ask questions, as it was in the development stages at the time.

BTW...the rods and reels are white mostly due to marketing.  It is a lot easier to market a rod that looks so much differently than the other products...brilliant if you ask me.

I don't get the last sentence. Loomis and St. Croix makes some pretty plain Jane style rods and they seem to sell better than any rod that 'looks' different. You don't see as many as of the yellow Wright and McGill rods and to a degree the Veritas has kind of faded in popularity. I will agree that rods built on colored blanks area more 'identfiable' over others but I disagree that they are more marketable than 'normal' looking rods. I actually know many folks that will flat out refuse to use rods built on bright vibrant colored blanks. The appeal and marketability of classic rods or cutting edge rods with a few colored accent pieces is much greater among all ages IMO... Specifically the Dobyns line, Loomis line, or Croixs.

It is a lot easier to identify a rod is using by having something different.  Boyd did, and still does it right by having an excellent pro staff to help push these rods.

You are right, Loomis and Croix sell a lot of rods, but Boyd's rods have been catching on very well the last few years.  Loomis and Croix have reputations that are decades long, hence marketing their rods on this and the word of mouth helps them a lot.

By introducing a product in an already saturated market, one has to produce a product that stands out in not only performance, but price and that "eye catching ability."  A person watching the elite series on tv or major league fishing can see these pros using these rods and it is much easier to identify them compared to loomis and croix rods, as they are different.  These same people can then go to a retailer that carries these rods and feel them for themselves.

I am saying, it is probably doing more good than bad for them having the blanks be white as far as sales volume goes.

Side plates, line guide, handle, and knobs all SCREAM Revo. Wouldn't surprise me. Probably made in the same facility. Which, MAY NOT BE A BAD THING! I would happily toss one of those around if it performed like a Revo.

hope they make them light weight too. duckett needs to hurry up and release the ghost rods for now though

Maybe it'll be a duel launch??? That would be cool!

*** is going to release low profile baitcasters, along with Zombie, and now Duckett... This won't turn out well.

All information that has surfaced regarding ***'s reels points to them being a completely new reel design, not just another OEM rebrand.  Here's the pic on the *** website:

The Duckett reels look exactly like Revo's or Browning baitcasters.  Haven't seen anything about Zombie yet.

Zombie reels were postponed, I believe, due to lack of money to continue.

The *** reels will likely be a pretty nice reel that uses a copy of okuma's centrifugal force braking system.

Where'd you get that info, if you don't mind my asking?

Where'd you get that info, if you don't mind my asking?

I asked a guy on the 13 staff and he told me it will use centrifugal braking.

That leaves 2 options:

1. internally adjustable

2. externally adjustable

The reel is obviously internally adjustable since the sideplate had nothing on it, which leads to a few more options.

1a. okuma style with the dial on the spool

1b. shimano vbs style with non spring loaded brakes

1c. Abu/Lews/Pflueger style with spring loaded brakes

1d. something new that is centrifugal, and adjustable..

I am just guessing it is Okuma style. Looks a good bit like helios too.

The skeet reels also have internally adjustable brakes on the spool. I don't think it is that bad of an option honestly

I know Duckett stated in some interview (sorry I watch alot of videos) that they planned on launching the reels at iCast 13.. but that quality didnt meet his standards and they nearly "started over"... Ghost rods were supposed to be out November from one press conference. that changed to first of December.. which changed to First thing 2014.. lol..

Now I am looking at Hammer Rods.. lighter and guides are just a tad bigger.. possibly going to give into the fanboydom and be like Grantman83.... DOBYNS! CHAMP... haha we will see

Lol am I getting that type of rep already?!?!!!

Lol typically if I search or question anything regarding a dobyns.. I can expect an answer from you hahaha.. its all good man!
