I am new to this site and don't know if posting pics is o.k. or how to do it... I have a working model of a very simple steering for my trolling motor for my 285fpb. I made it in a couple hours and all the parts are at Lowes. It's all aluminum. I still can't believe I did it. It works great and is simple to mount. If any one is interested in more info, let me know and if I can learn how to post pics too!

Yes. this is set up for my Sea Eagle 285 fpb but with some imagination who knows what else it would work on. Here you go...1 pc 3/4"x3/4" box tubing(length is up to you)1 u bolt(inside 1 1/8")this fits my Motorguide 1" shaft and the tubing compressed when mounted is a perfect fit. 2 eyebolts with the eye closed up on one to remove play when pushing or pulling. I have decided to close up the other eye to stop all play. 1 extension nut and 1 1/4" aluminum rod. I added threads to one end with a die. it is doable with lots of lube and backing up a lot. I used lock nuts entirely. The wood dowel added some length to the rod and a nicer grip(the green tubing is a side vision aid !)it go's with out saying the IDEA is here the rest is up to you. It works super easy and my trolling motor has a tension screw that allows the steering to be any way you like it. I can face forward and not be turning side ways all day long. I added a foot switch to have power on/off control so all that is needed is to set the speed.

nice to meet you too Wayne P. I have NEVER seen either of the 2 items you presented. I do think item 2 is close to my unit, but no cigar! A major exception is cost...mine you can make on your own for little money. I know mine is simple in design and easy to make at home with out a machine shop full of tools. I simply needed something to steer my inflatable and here is how I did it. If it helps out anybody then I'm good. if not then it will be added to all the other things in life we see more than 1 of every day of our lives. Lord help us if some one designs another new boat or fishing rod. How about all the different ideas that are flying about for kayak fishing. I'm sorry if I moved in on your honey hole, it's my first time at this lake.
