Swarming Hornet/ 3 1/2" LFT Live Magic Shad

This was a hit on the Tennessee River. Both green fish and

smallies seemed to love it. The key is in the retrieve: Cast and

let the lure settle, then reel quickly and let the lure fall back to

the bottom on slack line. Repeat until you fell you are "out of

the zone".

The blade lifts the lure when you reel. If you work the Hornet

by pumping your rod, it just moves the bait forward. Reel fast,

stop and let the lure sink straight down on slack line. The strike

always occurs on the fall, but you won't feel anything until you

resume your retrieve. When you feel ANYTHING, set the hook!

Roadwarrior I suggest to any guys out there who haven't tried this rig to add it to their arsenal. Thanks for sharing this tip a while back it's put a lot of solid fish in the boat for me.

Try the Magic shad on a chatter bait head too.

Both these rigs are deadly at the right time

I've got a SH head/fluke rigged on my deck at all times. For good reason.

X2 for the chatterbait

If you haven't tried it before, use the magic shad as a trailer on a spinner bait with silver willow leaves and a shad style skirt.

roadwarrior,

What color/weight combo of the swarming hornet and live magic shad seems to work so well for you?

I buy both 3/8 and 1/2 oz silver or white Hornets,

silver & white Magic Shad.

Do you buy the one that has the spring on the front like a normal swimbait hook?

Thanks

When I fished with him I believe he used the one with the fish head on it (fish head spin).  I could be wrong though.

I have had some luck in the OHio river with this rig. Seems like it gets better as the water cools.
