Thoughts on Owner Hooks..New edit!

Featured Replies

i only use trokar for dropshot its better but other is cheaply made

Owner Mosquito Hooks are hardly "cheaply made". The same can be said for Gamakatsu Splitshot/Dropshot hooks. I've never had a problem with them not being sharp enough to hook a bass or not being sturdy enough to pull a large fish out of the water. In fact, I've pulled out numerous 15#+ hard-fighting river carp out of very fast moving tailwater on a single Gamakatsu dropshot hook. These carp are used to swimming against extremely swift tailwater currents every single day to feed on food carried down to them from the dam so they are ridiculously strong.

The only company with cheaply made hooks that I can think of is Eagle Claw. And they manufacture Trokars.

And how the heck does an 18 year old have pockets deep enough to fish hooks that cost $2 a pop?

Agreed!

I used to fish Gamakatsu hooks, but I could just not afford to keep spending $4.50 per pack every other week (I got hung up a lot ;D).

I switched to the BPS hooks and though they aren't as good, they get the job done just fine.

People, this still doesn't answer my question in the EDIT, can we get with the program and stop arguing about Trokars and how Zero is 18 and fishing with them exclusively  ;D. I will create another post for that if you would like, but for this post I want to know more about OWNER hooks! Savvy  8-)

EDIT: Are the Owner J hooks with the the cutting point about the same as the Gamakatsu EWG or is the Owner Wide gap plus closer?

The J hooks are light wire, and the Wide Gap Plus are 3X wire.  Same basic shape.

I think I'm just gonna have to pick up a pack and try them out :(

There is the correct answer to your question.

I like Owner hooks a little better than Gammy's, but there's nothing wrong with Gammys.

The Rig-N hook is great for short baits like tubes, chigger craws and space monkeys.

Thank you, lol, this is what I was trying to find out. Right now I just have the plain old owner offset wide gap hooks that I tested out, like them so far, just wanted something more similar to the Gammy EWG that I'm used to. For my rigging purposes, I thing the shape of the EWG is a little easier to rig. Oh choices :(

i prefer gama ewg for most things and then owner for drop shotting.
