anyone else play with rc boats while out on the lake ?

Not unless they make rc battleships. What better way to keep the riff raff away while im fishing.

Don't get to spend enough time as it is on the water without adding another interest.

About 25 years ago I got into it briefly.    Had a tunnel hull racer.   I started the first one from a wood kit.  It soon became apparent that was not for me so I bought the preformed hull version to speed things along.  It was powered by a .45 cc alcohol engine.   The thing screamed and shot a hell of a rooster tail.   It was advertised to run about 50-60 mph, but I was never able to confirm that.      The ponds I had nearby were not big enough to run it on, and the lakes were always too rough.   I kinda got out of it as quickly as I got into it, and minus a pile of money.   lol

 

This isn't me or my boat, I just found a random picture on the internet that shows roughly the same style and size of the boat i had.   Motor looks awfully similar too.

 

I have wanted one for a while (couple of decades) but when I get spare money to buy toys, it had always ended up way down the list.   As an aside, years ago, guys around Warsaw, MO started building some fairly large (2' long,)  remote control boats, powered by a Minn Kota 65 size trolling motor and a deep cycle battery for power.  The purpose of these boats was to drag a substantial piece of cut bait a hundred yards or so against the current in the spillway below Truman Dam.  This continued for several years and many large catfish were caught using this method.   The Department of Conservation finally came to the conclusion that too few guys were catching too many big catfish and so they put a stop to it by stringing several cables across the current flow.

the small tunnel boats like that are flat water only ,that's what I am getting next running a .21 nitro motor ,the ones I currently have are electric the blue boat is high 50s and the silver is a cat last gpsed at 68 mph but I have made some mods and need to get out with it again both will run great in rough water

I use to to play with them more when I was younger.made a 54" and made a mold.pop a few boats out of it but at time I don't have motor in then.running a 43" cat..

After I got done with the boats I had a brilliant idea of making my own RC off road vehicle and using a chainsaw motor as the powering device.  Why not, it already had a built-in clutch system.   Had the frame welded up and had the motor, but that's as far as it got.
