Favorite Lure Retriever/ Saver

Featured Replies

I'd like to try and do a poll of guys favorite lure savers.... My tackle is getting more expensive plus I'm fishing more so I'm of course losing more. I just bout the cabelas snagmaster or whatever it's called but feel like I should have spent more for a better version. What are your favorites?

You need 2 kinds of lure retrievers.  You need the  "hound dog" type that you slide down your line and you need the extendable pole type.  Most of the time I will  grab the extendable pole first, but not always.   It just depends on what is stuck where.  There are lots of different brands and I think that they are all roughly the same.

Yeah I like the idea of being able to reach out there and work the snag out with a pole. My only concern is that when extended the pole won't hold up to make pushing and pulling on it, is the pole stout enough when stretched out? Do it's individual sections lock in place?

This one has saved me a bunch of $$$$. I fish a lot of Poes cranks at $10 each and this allows me to not worry. Over 2 years and only a couple times i couldnt get one back. I also used them on jigs and shakey heads. Only thing I would spend $5 more and get the one that has a reel to store line.

Ahhhh yea I like how it contains it's own line. I knew I bought the wrong one, oh well I will get my money's worth out of it before I replace it and then throw it on my old fishing gear bin I guess.

I did it again, I bought the entry level product with the intent of learning how to use it. only to find out that the more expensive stuff is necessary when you fish often.

Lurenet has a great one with four little chains...believe it's a Bill Dance model.

Second I use a three inch egg singer with a swivel and duo lock to slide down line for shakey heads and such...awesome I make these myself and wouldn't be without

Can you elaborate/post a picture of the egg sinker retriever you make? I'm interested. Thanks!

I bought that one too. Here's what I did. Take an empty large size water bottle and screw the cap back on. Now tie the lure retriever string to the neck. Next wrap the excess line around the bottle. Now you have your own line minder and if you drop the line in the water the bottle floats.

Also, after two seasons with this I learned that it works well as a retriever sometimes but not all the time. Just bought a 5-12 ft extendable pole style to have in the boat too.
