Little Twist On Float N Fly

Recommended Posts

So i havent tried a float n fly but was doing some brainstorming and want to know what those that have experience using this technique have to say.

Instead of using a bobber/float...how bout using a Rebel Popr and taking the rear hook off and fish it as normally would...Maybe give potential for the fish to try to take the Popr too.

Only drawbacks i can see is potentially tangling the line for the fly in the remaining hook of the Popr and visibility issues(not able to see the Popr as a strike indicator)

Whats everyone think of this??

Too much action. The Float 'n Fly technique is very subtle.

I was under the impression that the retrieve on a f-n-f was a light twitch in calm water

One of the benefits of using a true float is the ability to utilize a bobber stop to adjust depth as needed. Substituting a pop-r for a float may be ok in warm water situations where a topwater bites exists. However this technique was developed for cold water primarily such as ice out or just prior to ice up.

It wouldn't hurt to try it just to see if it is effective but the original concept is still the way to go in most every circumstance.
