Has anyone here used the BPS cranking stick for jerkbait and topwater use? If so how do you like it?

I've used Crankin' Sticks for minnow baits like original Rapala floaters where you are basically doing a steady retrieve or perhaps a reel and pause retrieve.  But, for jerkbaits/ripbaits where you are using a twitch or jerk movement, and for topwater where you're trying to walk-the-dog or similar retrieves, I think most folks are going to say that they like a bit stouter tip than what you have on a Crankin' Stick.

I used my partners, it is a good cranking rod but too whippy for jerking I believe.

I did, back when I had one (7' M) and I didn't care for it. I have also since then tried all my other cranking specific rods for topwaters and jerkbaits, and the results are the same............I don't like it.  A 6'6" M power, fast action rod is where it's at for me as far as top water and jerk baits are concerned.

and these specs you are referring to a fiberglass rod right? This is where it becomes confusing because the BPS crankin stick offers these specs (6'6", M power) with a fast taper. Is it the bend of the rod when you tried using it for jerkbaits that you don't like?

BPS is driving all their customers bonkers with their action ratings on the Crankin' Sticks.  What they call a fast action actually fishes like a moderate, the Crankin' Stick extra-fast actions actually fish like a moderate to moderate-fast.

 

These are true cranking rods, with a softer tip going well down the blank.

No, I like a graphite rod for topwaters and jerkbaits. Glass, composite, or moderate action graphite rods load up to much for my liking when trying to work the baits. Some people like moderate actions for this..............I don't.
