Need Opinion Of Denali Rod

Featured Replies

Recently I've been looking into a new flippin stick for thick mats and heavy cover. I've read reviews and looked at prices and at this point I believe the Denali JC905FX is one of the best options out there for it's price. Has anyone personally used this rod that can give an honest opinion? Or is there another rod between 100-120 that anyone would recommend looking into? Thanks

Edit: In addition has anyone paired a particular reel with this rod that they believe compliments it and balances well?

If you can I would spend the extra 20 bucks and get the Kovert  K925FX it has micro guides which makes for a smooth flip. There is Nothing wrong with the jadewood but it is a long rod at 7'11 the kovert comrs in 7'8. if you plan to use for just flipping I would go with the Kovert, but if you did want a rod to throw the A rig the Jadewood would probably be better because the lure weight goes up to 3 oz. where the kovert is 1.5 oz. both are great rods it just depends on what you want to do with them. as for a reel I would not flip with the same reel as tossing a rig for flipping stay with a fast reel like 7.1 to get the bait back to you quickly and for a rig I would use a 5.1 or 6.3 depending on the size of the rig bigger use 5.1 smaller 6.3 the 5.1 will help with the cranking that big lure back to the boat. as for brand of reel I use Lews and Quantum I would not buy a abu Garcia Max reel I have used them all and they don't last if you go abu get a Revo they seem to hold up much longer . good luck

My opinion  of Denali in general is that they're quite heavy, and undergeared for what you pay for.  The 905 is a 7-6 rod that has the weight of most other 8' rods.  The guides are substandard, and the handles and grips leave a lot to be desired.  For the same money you can be in a Veritas flip stick, or even a carbonlite.  For a little bit more money you can be in a Crucial and have a MUCH better warranty as well as better build quality and components overall.
