Question about Mattlures on replacing hard bluegill tail

Featured Replies

The hard bluegill comes with a spare plastic tail. The tail appears to be held in with two brass pins. What's the trick on replacing the tails? Just push the pins out and reinstall the tail and replace the pins? Are the pins tapered so they only go in and out one way?

BTW, I don't need to replace the tails yet, but was just curious for when I did.

Micro, they are wood (toothpicks) AFAIK.

I would put a sealant on them and just wedge them in there.

LOL, they are wood.  I had to look at them under a magnifying glass.  My eyes are getting old.  Are they glued in?

No, they are not glued in. I wouldnt use a sealer either. The water soakes into the toothpicks and the wood swells and keeps them good and tight. The tails are not under any stress so they rarely need to be replaced. If you ever need to replace one just push the tooth pick peices out with something like a piece of wire etc. Then put the new tail and push toothpicks through the holes and trim them. You can put a little sper glue where the tail meets the bottom of the slot for extra security.
