In Need Of Help

Featured Replies

I'm looking for knowledge on bass fishing i can not seem to understand them and deep water fishing is a nightmare for me any help thanks

Welcome to the forum. Deep water fishing is probably the hardest to learn. Unlike fishing the shallows there are no easily visible targets of structure or cover. Contour maps and electronics are very important. Minus those, probing the bottom with deep cranks and heavy Carolina rigs can help find bottom features. Humps, rock piles, ledges, deep weedlines, and transitions from soft to hard bottom are what you're looking for. Bait fish on the sonar if you have it is an obvious spot. You've come to the right place for answers for sure. A lot of knowledgeable folks here. Check out the library of articles too. There's a lifetime of reading and watching videos all right here.

Awesome i just bought a new boat to me and plan on putting a hummingbird 1158 at dash and a 998 on the front is there any the to do with the water temp that will inform me about what depths to look at first i just joined a bass club and i would love to do well

Deep water fishing can be a dream with a little practice. Without knowing much about your situation it's hard to give much advice. Personally I enjoy locating deep grass on humps and points, primarily using a deep crank as my lure of choice. If you have a boat /kayak Id say get some sorta depth finder and start fishing structure(weeds, drop off, rock piles). If your bank fishing make long casts with Carolina rigs/jigs and fish slow. Learn how to feel the bottom and it'll pay off.

Welcome to the forum and congrates on the new boat. You are asking us to give you advice only time will get you the answers too. Just hang around the forums a lot and READ! everything you can get your hands on. Typically deep water fishing means structure. weather it be wood or rock if you locate bait balls in the area the quite possibly there will be bass there. Deep water structure may also be a bottom break or creek channel. Depending on the time of the year  water temp can play into this. In the spring a 2* change in water temp can make a huge difference in activity. The same goes in the dog days of summer. The fish will drop back to their winter grounds to stay down around the termocline. Watch bassresource youtube hes covers bass fishing like no other. Even a seasoned bass fisherman will pick up things. But going back to where I started it all just talks time on the water to learn what works for you. Good luck!!

New to bass fishing as well and this forum is a great place to seek out knowledge it seems everyone is willing to help us newbies. Definitely. Check out bassresource videos they are priceless !

fish with your club members as much as possible, you could learn a lot from them. also, that time on the water is experience, and helps you to better understand and put together the things you read and learn on here and elsewhere....

Welcome aboard!

Ask a lot of questions. You'll learn that everyone has different answers but take what you feel is valuable.

To me, the following is the biggest help: At the top right of this screen and every forum is an icon that looks like a gear, located to the right of the green magnifying glass. Click on it and you can discover literally every topic related to bass fishing (and some that aren't) that has been discussed, either current discussions or old archived topics.

I always use this tool and it is very helpful. Late at night when there's not a lot of discussion going on, type in "structure" or "water temp". I promise you'll be reading for a long time.
