  1. Yeah, the two in the bass boat were fishing a local tournament. The operator of the boat who is in his 70's and has been fishing this lake for decades. They should have been wearing their PFD but there is conflicting reports about that. However the young men in the jon boat which were brothers age 33 and 25 did not have on their PFD. The way this accident happened the result may have been the same but by those two young men by not wear them they took the most important life saving device in boating out of the equation. This single incident has made my argument that have with my fishing buddy (age 59) about him wearing his PFD and kill switch every time he is under way on the big motor. The only reason I mention ages is because when it comes to (accidents or carelessness) it could have to anyone. We hear about these stories EVERY YEAR why is that man kind has this ridiculous mentality of (This would never happen to me) and go about their day like my buddy does. We have to do better.
  2. The wife and I are planning a camping trip the third week of September. I'm looking for a little info about campgrounds and the bass fishing this time of year. Any info is appreciated.
  3. Update, the knock sensor being disconnected was my issue.
  4. Sorry for wording it incorrectly "my motor wouldn't push my boat on plane"
  5. Yesterday my 2004 yamaha 225 ox66 vmax wouldn't come up on plane. The bulb wouldn't pump tight so I changed it and of course it wasn't that simple. However when I pulled the cowling last night to start checking lines and filters I noticed that knock sensor was unplugged. Could this keep the motor from coming up on plane?
  6. I was working on a customer's house on Great Creek all week. The Creek was very busy with PWC, wake boarders, and skiers. It may have just the week it was. I got out on the water for about six hours on Friday didn't do anything on the main lake, very hard to fish with all the traffic. We made our way into Six Pound Creek and caught three small spotted bass on the points. I talked to another guy that was there all week, he said he never really got on them. He did better running up the river. I'm going back down there in two weeks to work again. So I'm going to take another swing at them. I met a guy that just moved down there and he is trying to figure them out as well, so I'm going out with and we scratch our heads together. Good luck, let us know how you do.
  7. We always go during the week in the summer no matter what body on water we fish. I think we are going early fall, late September early November.
  8. It may be the Fall anyway, because I don't think the wife is going to camp in the Summer months. To be honest I'm not feeling camping in the Summer months either.
  9. Has anyone ever fished Falls Lake in NC? The wife and I are planning a camping/fishing trip in the near future and I have been looking at this lake on the map and it looks very intriguing. Or if anyone has another suggestion I'm all ears. We are trying to stay around 3 hours or less from home. I live about 30 minutes south or Richmond. I have drawn a 3 hour circle from my house and there is a lot choices.
  10. After two cancellations in 2020 I finally got back down to Florida to visit my brother and my daughter. I'm staying in the Vero Beach area and I'm hoping to be able to get in a couple of days of fishing in. So if anyone needs a fishing buddy next week I'm open. I would pay for all expenses. Or if anyone knows of some places where I could fish from the bank.
  11. Yeah a couple of my buddy's are heading down there to fish Head Waters lake for a few days. The guy that I'm supposed to hook up with doesn't want to fish Head Waters. He said it's to crowded right now with all the people coming in from all over to fish it.
  12. Hey guys I haven't been active on here for awhile. The last few months have been a little crazy but that another story for another time. The wife and I are planning to go to my daughters in Florida for vacation in two weeks. This will be our third attempt in the last six months. Question is has anyone fished Blue Cypress Lake? That lake is only 35 minutes from my daughter's house and I'm thinking about trying to slip in a day or two of fishing. I have plans of fishing The Stick Marsh with a guy that I have been chatting with over the last few months. But I may try and get in another lake while I'm there. Any advice is appreciated.
  13. Funny that's where this one came from. Let me know when's good for you for lunch and I'll make it happen.
  14. My uncle-in-law and I got on the water today at 2 and fished until 6. We put in at Whippernock and stayed in the creek the whole time. The water was high but the clarity was not bad at all, the water temp was in the upper 70s. There was bait balls everywhere. We caught 9 total best 5 was 12.2lbs the biggest was this 4.7lber. I still have yet to catch a 5lber this year but I still have 3 months to get it done.
  15. I'm going to Vero Beach area to visit my daughter for a week (October 24th though the 31st.) At some point that week I'm going to be looking to go bass fishing for at least one day. So I'm looking for suggestions or if there's a member that would like to work as a guide for a day that would be cool. Love meeting members any chance I can. We will be flying in so I won't have any of my gear with me. I will have to buy what in need if I don't do a guided trip somewhere. Is there any public fishing areas In Indian River County that I maybe able to try. I see some bodies of water on the map but don't know if its public waters. Any info I can get would be greatly appreciated.
  16. John my advice would be if you are going to be fishing the lower end of the lake near the dam. I would focus on early in the morning or late in the evenings. The boat traffic this time of year is bad even during the week right now. My suggestion would be to Whippnock Marina, the ramp fee is $8.00 and don't forget to sigh the bass book. It takes 10lbs to win the pot, it could happen. Also if you put in at Lake Chesdin Campground the ramp fee is $7.00 (last time I was there) this will give you the biggest and safes area to fish out of a kayak. You have access to the old river channel and two creeks with in eye sight of the boat ramp. If you don't have it I suggest loading the navionics app. The lake lay out, channels and contours are very accurate. With all that said this lake is very pressured and can be very tough. I fish this lake all the time. If I can help you out just let me know. Welcome to the form.
  17. I have come across someone who has a few of these rods for sale. My question is has any of you used these rods and if so what's your opinion. I haven't found much about the rods other then Hibdon's video and a few on Ebay. The ones on Ebay are around 90$ is this close to what they cost.
  18. I had a guy show me one time. How to fillet Pike So you don't have to deal with all the Y bone. The only problem is if the fish isn't at least 18 in Long you don't get much meat.
  19. Nice fish. My mother in law would have loved to had that one that's her favorite fish to eat. Looks like you almost needed longer arms for the picture.
  20. Sounds good just let me know
  21. The wife and I got on the lake around 6 am Friday morning we spent all day on the water fishing, towing my wife behind the boat on a float while I fished, swimming and just floating around on a floats watching all the people wake boarding, skiing and just running up and down the lake. The fishing was very slow we managed to pick up five the biggest one was 4lbs. The wife caught her first bass on a worm a 2.9lber. She is a moving bait "fisher" (to use the politically correct term) but she is learning sometimes they just don't want something moving so she is trying to learn new techniques. Plus the finesse worm is a good bream locator and that's her favorite fish to eat. All and all we had a great time spending the day together. It's day like yesterday that makes the other six days of the week I usely work worth it and with that said time to go get some estimates done. Everyone have a good and save 4th
  22. Very nice
  23. Made it out Monday afternoon for about 5 hours didn't do much caught 8 only 3 were scorable biggest 2lbs. Water temperature was showing mid to upper 80's.
  24. Made it out this evening about 4 o'clock until dark with my uncle in law. We stayed in whippnock creek again the water conditions was about the same as last week except the for the temperature it was 78 to 80 degrees. We caught 12 total 8 scorable best 5 was 11.8lbs the bigges was 3.14lbs all in all another good day. One notable observation there was alot anglers on the water for a Monday evening. We saw at least 8 different boats just in whippnock creek and we talked to a couple of guys that were loading up as we were, they said that saw 30 to 40 boats on the water today.
  25. We fished both. Caught one and missed two on one side and caught three on the other.
