Snakehead, Not Until June?

Featured Replies

Something about the way they destroy topwater. I love catching snakehead from my kayak. This is my first full year in S. FL. When does the bite pickup enough to be worth going out and targeting them.

The end of March through November are the best times in my opinion.

I think your opinion is correct.  I was in Coral Springs about 2 weeks and had a snakehead strike, didn't land it.

I go snakehead fishing in Springs and catch bass, sigh....

I went on our to Springs and Margate on Sunday. Only caught one in Sunrise before heading up. I didnt even see any to spook. I guess I have to go to uncharted areas now because they must be over fishished. I used to be able to catch them in the same spots any time of year as long as it was 70+

I think its time for me to retire from the game for a bit and switch over to fly fishing tilapia

Missed a nice snakehead today during lunch. 30lb power pro didn't get the job done. What's everyones experience with fishing line for snakehead? I'm thinking about going with 80lb power pro, although a wire leader may work just as well.

Don't get too crazy with line and leader. I use 40/50 braid straight to the hook. If I were trying to set a record I would step up to 65# braid.

I use a medium duty inshore set up.  MH 10/20 7' spinning rod, 4000 reel with 20# braid and 30# leader.

We have some snakeheads up here in VA. I had good luck catching em with a Red eye shad right when the water temps hit the mid 50's. My set-up: 7' med action, Revo S, and 12lb Seaguar Red Label. (12lb sounds light but Ive caught a few DD snakeheads on it, I found its more about how you fight the fish IMO) Things are probably different down there but this is just my two cents.
