Shimano D, E, G???

Featured Replies

So I'm sure this has been discussed many times already, but what is the difference between the models.

For instance, people are selling/ buying Citicas, but are only looking for D and E models. What makes them more desirable than the G model?

Each new version was in improvement in quality until the G and it was a step back. A good reel but not as good as the e or d.

The letter stands for the version. Some people don't like the G models because of the materials used in some parts, such as the drag star (plastic). E D and B seem to be the most well liked.

The G Citica is not nearly as different from the E as the Curado E/G due to the reintroduction of the Chronarch label. The D series Citica is a super smooth reeling, and good casting reel and are built like a tank. The trade off is that they were heavy by to day's standard. The E was a smaller profile and lighter weight version. The G more or less just went to a combined platform with the Caenan, Citica & Curado. The CT and CU are still good performing workhorse reels, but the D&E have a more refined feel to them.
