Potomac River, 23 Feb 14

Featured Replies

Fished Pohick bay this past Sunday.   Fished deeper near the main river channel, T-docks, didn't even see any fish or bait on the finder, let alone catch anything.  Water temps were low 40's closer to the Potomac.  Made our way to the back of the bay and up near Pohick creek.   Water temps got as high as 55 in the shallows.  Saw lots of 8-10 inch gizzard shad flipping all over the flats.  Didn't see much chasing.  Threw lipless cranks and swimjigs.  Caught one small bass maybe a pound on the swimjig.  Worked the flats in the mid bay area also, 7-8 feet.  Didn't see any bait there either.  Pitched to laydowns in various depths along the shoreline too, nothing doing.  Threw swimjigs, lipless cranks, crawled the bottom with jigs and paca craws.  Drop shot around the T-docks too.  Thought there might be some fish in the warmer water and the little warming trend we had last week, but couldn't find them if they were there.  Looks like it's gonna be cold again for a week or so.

Yep. You will have snow today and more next week.

Bass must still be staging in the deeper water.

Keep trying and let us know how you do.

Sam, Fry - Want to hook up some time for spring fishing? I'm relatively new to the Potomac, but would really enjoy the opportunity to share some time on the river with some of our fellow BR members... PM me if you are interested.
