Good For All Around Bank Fishing?

Featured Replies

Hey guys:

I often fish with three or four poles when I go out, but sometimes I just need a "go to" when I can't get out in the kayak. So, this is what I came up with. Let me know if you think it would suffice for most bank conditions and distance casting. I have a Daiwa medium heavy rod with a soft tip (6'6"). I am running a Trios 30S reel on it with 6lb Siren braided line. I'm hoping this would provide an all around rod for those quick stop days. I'll post a picture of it after. Thanks for the advice!

My personal favorite for a "grab and go" bank fishing setup is a 7' medium or medium heavy rod with a 6.something:1 reel.

Currently, that setup for me is a 7' medium mojo bass rod with a shimano citica and 14 lb fluorocarbon.

My previous version of this setup was a 7' medium carbonlite with a pro qualifier.

This setup just gets it done for me as far as bank fishing is concerned.

Your setup should be just fine.  Very similar to mine.

My single go-to combination is as follows

6'6" MH Spinning rod

AbuGarcia Orra S30 with 10lb PowerPro Braid

I carry 8-10lb FC to add a leader if I feel it's necessary.

It's what I started on and always carry it with me now.

Bank fishing I use a 6'6" carbonLite med/light with a carbonlite gold 6.4.1 ratio. Some places on the river or creek banks I can't throw the 7+ footers. The rod is extra sensitive with enough back bone to pull out hogs too.

Seems light but if it works it works.

I use a 7' carrot stick with a curado with 20lb floro or 60lb braid

My go to all around is a 6'9" M/XF spinning rod...spooled with 10lb braid with 6 or 8 lb floro leader.  Most of the time, even shore fishing I take 3-4 rods still.

  • 3 weeks later...

7' MH mojo bass cranking rod with a Tatula and 14lb Sufix fluorocarbon and a box of crankbaits...

7' mh fast mojo or  veritas 40# pp whichever is rigged up to my liking more and either a 6'8 ml x-fast rage or 6'10 m-xfast LTB

Baitcaster St. Croix Avid 7' M Fast 1/4-3-8 Tatula 7.3:1 10 lb Invizix

Spinning Falcon Original 7' M 1/4-1/2 Shimano Sahara 8lb Excalibur super sliver thread

If that combo works for you, go for it. My go to combo is a 7ft Avid with a LEWS Tournament MG, on 30lb PP braid/ with leaders.
