Spro Baby BBZ-1 Question

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to cast this little lure on lite baitcast reel and rod?  I read on TW that the weight of the baby BBZ-1 is 1/4 oz...so it's possible?

Depending on the rod and or reel you're using, you should have no problems casting a 1/4 oz plug on casting equipment.

I'll be using a 6'9" MH Carrot Stix it's rated for 1/4-3/4 oz lure weight.  Reel I'm using is a BPS Carbonlite w/ 30/8 lb braid...so it's doable?

Don't waste 15 bucks on this little bait... i have a friend that bought 3 of them and they all run up on one side when you reel them in... I would recommend throwing the bbz shad its much better

The 4 inch shad casts like a kite. I can't imagine the 2.5 would be any better.

Its the way you are casting it. Just like a deep little N or a DD22 when the bait goes through the air tail first you get a lot more distance. Just takes a little practice.

Tell him to contact spro or the store he bought it from they will make it right.

I didn't have any problems casting the one I have and the bait swam true. That said if you look at any of Bill Siemental's vids on this bait he will tell you that bait was designed to be fished with light line, I believe he used 6 lb floro. Perhaps the guy who had a problem with the bait running on it's side was using too heavy of line. I'm still fairly new with the bait and can't say that with total certainty.

I bought one of these online not thinking it would be as small as it really is. I only cast mine on spinning gear because it is so small and actually view this bait as a crappie/bream bait because it is so small. I guess I expected it to have a bigger profile.
