10 Lb Mono To Light For Bc

Featured Replies

As I am liking jerk baits more, want to set me up small combo, fishing from shore so don't really want to use floro, so as topic says will 10 lb mono work, reel us just an ole h20 mettle

We use 8lb or 6lb fluoro for baitcasters. it can be done and will work with 10lb mono.

You shouldn't have any problems with 10 lb test at all.

I use 8 lb. mono on most of my Medium power rods.  I am using 6 lb. mono on two of my baitcasters for lighter weights.  I have no problem using either test lines.

Thanks guys, never went below 14, lol always using braid or Fluro leaders. Thanks

10lb is my "standard" weight on BC reels - I go up and down from there as necessary.  I do fish mostly open water so 10lb isn't a problem.

Pic of a 10 pound line fish... ;)

Photo shop much Goose? Just kidding. I hooked a carp that size one time on 12lb and it was a blast.

Yeah, my biggest fish was a 35 pound carp with 8 lb. XL on a spinning rod.  Lots of fun!  :teeth:

I routinely use 8 lb. Trileene Big Game on a couple of my baitcasters with no problems at all. 10 lb. is what I use for most crankbait fishing.

I caught one around that size on freakin 4 lb test trilene xl, on a ultra light spinning rig one time lol. Pearl white grub tail on a roadrunner jig head. Took forever to get fish in.

10lb. Trilene Big Game would suit your purposes just fine. Some of the best mono on the market today.

Well, this one was 48 pounds and took 53 minutes to land. If you caught a 48 pounder on 4lb test - that was quite a catch indeed !

Lol not quite 48 pounds mine was low 20 pound. I was impressed with the line after that, I have no idea how it didn't break.

Showed a guy at work your picture and told him the fish probably weight at least 40 lbs.  Sorry for underestimating it by so much.  :sad78:  The head should have tipped me off to my error.

Really nice fish and nice picture.

It's always hard to tell from photos. The one below, also caught on 10lb test, is close to your estimate at 41 pounds but with that big belly looks heavier than the 48 pounder.

To the OP - sorry for drifting on your thread but at least you can see that in open water, 10lb test can handle some sizeable fish...
