Hook Help!

Featured Replies

What size and types of hooks do you recommend for wacky rigging 5'' plus stick baits for largemouth bass.

Thanks

I always prefer a Gamakatsu 1/0 Inline circle hook. Unless the cover is too snaggy, then I'll switch to a 1/0 weedless wacky. But the circle is certainly my preference if I can get away with it.

Thanks! I've used Gamakatsu circle hooks for saltwater and they are great hooks.

Since you really will want to fish them slow and around docks, bruch, etc, I reccomend the weedless Gammy hooks in 2/0 for a 5" Senko or 1/0 for a 4". Dont be afraid to throw or skip back where other people wont.

I fish wacky *a lot*.

Personal opinion here, I like Gamakatsu Wide Gap Finesse the best of all the hooks I've tried, which is a number of brands.

I do like the Owner wacky hooks, but the beaked bend of the hook is not my favorite. I still use them on occasion, though.

Weedless hooks, I've tied my own, used Owner, Gammy, Hayabusa, others, and prefer Gammy's the most.

Size-wise, and for a 5" worm, I use anything from 2 to 2/0. I've used them all with 5" senkos and caught on all sizes. Not sure which provides the best hookup as I've not journaled that, but I'd suspect 1-2/0.

Thanks! That's exactly where I fish them, under docks and pontoon boats.

Thanks for all the replies.  Going to stock up and will post a topic on what I buy when I go down to the states soon.

Here is a thread I started. I got a lot of the same great advice from the same cool folks. And I did some testing of my own and posted a few of the findings.

I prefer the Trokar wacky weedless hooks. My go to size is a 1/0.
