Reel Painting

Featured Replies

Aside from calfish , who else does reel painting? And what's a reasonable price for a basic solid color?

I'm thinking of having a citica e done that has some minor rash painted a matte black or gray but I'm open to ideas.

Anyone have a custom paint job on theirs?

In addition to Calfish you can try Pizz Customs. Price will be dependent upon the number of colors, amount of paint used, and if the paint itself is more expensive.

It isn't cheap. You will have disassemble the reel down to the frame or have someone do this for you. The parts you want painted you just send in. I would budget somewhere around $80-$100 for paint work.

Also make sure you go with a reputable person as not all painters are equal. I have a reel that Calfish did a two tone paint job on. Absolutely love it.

Yeah, I did a Google search and the quality of others compared to calfish work arnt even close. I just want a solid color. No fancy patterns or stencils. I'm almost comfortable completely disassembling the reel but not 100% so know that would add to the cost.

The one thing I'm concerned about is how long the paint will last or how it compares to the factory job. How is the paint holding up on your reel?

Very well. The only part where it has rubbed off at all is on the reel foot. Once mounted on a rod it isn't even noticeable.

There is place in Texas I used and they did a good job.

I have a chronarch 100b painted by pizz 4 years ago. 2colors, almost no wear showing, still looks fantastic. $90.

I don't exactly have the nicest reels so I may view this differently than y'all, but I think a reel looks better with a case of boat rash.

What am I missing? Paying $80- $100 to "PAINT" a tool? :surprised:

I can just buy another PQ for that or put a hell of a dent in a more expensive reel.

I too like to keep my equipment as nice as possible for as long as possible but holy smokes!

Different strokes...

People pay top dollar to paint their hard baits only to to have them banged into rocks and chewed on. The reel stays on the rod in your hand lol.

Ha factor in upgrades, handles, tuning and painting and you got about 250 extra into a few of my reels lol

It's one thing repainting, upgrading and super tune all at once, you/I could get a better reel. But one at a time makes sense imo.
