2014 45Mins Of Fishing And Fell In The Lake Again!

Recommended Posts

I was pumped to finally get out of the winter doldrums.

There was only a 30yd x 30yd patch of open water but I didn't care I was out with Mother Nature.

I got a snag and climbed down some rocks to get it free. The next thing I knew I had face planted in the water!

Son of a big mouth bass.

Sounds like you're no worse for the wear, and a good attitude to boot!

You + nature = match made in heaven

Question is, so the "patch" was 30x30, does that mean it was surrounded by ice?

That makes for a durn cold dip in the pond.

Only on two sides. This was in a cove and the east and south sides were open all the way to the banks. A portion of the 3rd side and the open side all had ice.

Thus I was not fishing over ice. I fell out of my boat last year.

P.s. The water wasn't as cold as you might think that it would be.

It was sunny out and the water in the cove is shallow.

I have found out on my similar mishaps (eye roll) that the water is much warmer than you would think.

That's pretty funny my man. At the begining of the season it takes me awhile to get my fishing legs back. Ive been out 3times and tripped on a rock and put a nice gash in my shin, ripped my jeans and skinned my hand and haven't even caught a fish yet. By the end of the season I'm like spider man on those rocks though.

I feel your pain, ice baths after pitching is so cold. Be safe out there

Yep safety needs to improve. I need to change my fishing habits (ex climbing down rip rock banks in the dark)and use safer fishing judgement.

I more often than not fish at night and frequently I am the only person at the lake.

Ninety percent of the time I fish from the bank.

Too bad that I can't blame it on drinking or something.

I never drink while fishing and seldom drink in general (virtually never).

I despise any and all drugs so that will never ever be an issue.

Since  you seem to be prone to disasters how about:

1.  Always wearing a PFD when you fish, even from the bank.

2.  Leaving a note at your home telling everyone where you are fishing and when you are expected to be home.

3.  Bring a flashlight with you to use when needed.

4.  Purchase and enroll in the "SPOT" locating system and report in every 15 minutes so that your family can to to your computer and find where your body is located.

5.  Update your will.

6.  Buy a bass boat with the widest beam possible.

Just some suggestions to make finding you easier!!!

Have fun and stay warm.

Nah man just trying to find some smallies or walleye.

Op Sam listed some great advice right there. One thing off that list is I always let a family member know where I'm going and expect to be back and let them know when I'm home.

On this theme... People with fancier boats tend to name them. As I have fallen out my boat twice I'm thinking of naming it. "Man overboard"

I'm also going to paint a little life jacket next to it!

It is a combination of my prowess for falling in and as it is on a beat up ol john boat sort of sarcasm to the fancy folks.

I stand corrected, so, early March and you still have frozen lakes, I don' t understand why you guys don' t move South.

I'm a professional faller now I could be a stuntman. My dog gets tangled with his dog cable as I step over it he pulls it tight and catches one foot on me every time. Faceplant. I know how to stop, drop and roll growing up in the fifties too.

I lost 70# so quickly I was over medicated. I was passing out while standing up. On the way down stop, drop and roll on my side.

You can do it too.
