New Cranking Rod

Featured Replies

Im looking for a new cranking rod. was looking at the pinnacle series but I want to try and keep it closer to 100$. I am partial to st croix but most if their rods are either too heavy or too light. Looking for something around 7' or longer medium to medium-heavy with a lure rating of 1/4-3/4. I would like to use it for everything from lipless 3/4oz to 1/4oz squarebills.

I "prefer" cork over EVA foam. Any recommendations would be appreciated. thanks guys.

Also do any of you guys prefer graphite vs glass.

I just bought a bps cranking stick and really enjoyed it wen I took it to Pickwick. They make several different lengths and powers. Plus they are only 80 bucks. Also come with cork handle.

Powell max 703 Glass can be found for 150$ at the fish ranger. Also, Denali jadewood? Never used one but heard there good.

Denali Kovert 7'6" Cranking Rod or the Denali Jadewood.

I like glass for so many reasons. We all know they are heavy but a 7 footer shouldn't wear you out too bad. I still have not tried the "composite rods" but they may be a nice "in-between"

Lamiglas has always made a good glass rod but their excel rod is foam grip. The Powel Diesel is foam as well, I would be pretty tempted by that price.

That's a big range of weights to throw with one rod. I use a SC Avid AVC70MM for baits 1/2 oz. and lower. I have a few other MH rated sticks for the heavier stuff. You might find something that works for everything, but nothing I've tried works as well as that Avid for little cranks.
