Charging A Battery

Featured Replies

I have a 27 dc marine battery that I recently purchased, and I had a question about charging it.

This is the charger set at 2 amps per hour:

How do I tell if the battery is charged or not? I see the "Charge" on the left hand side, but I dont see anything pointing to the percent charged other than the little pointer which I thing is just telling you the amount of amps per hour, because if you flip the charger to six amps per hour, the pointer moves. Does it have to do with the color of the pointer? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With that charger use the 6A setting.

When the indicator needle is at the bottom of the scale, your battery is charged. That is what all the stuff in the left hand column is all about.

Yes, but when I flip it to the 6A setting, the indicator moves towards the top. That's why I don't think it has to do with the charge of the battery.

No the 2amp charge reads from the bottom up towards middle, middle being charged and 6ampi reads from top to middle, again middle being fully charged,

so when it is charged it will be on 50%?

I think you may mean "when I flip it to the 6V setting", not 6A? No? That charger looks like it has the capability to charge in 6V mode or 12V. You definitely want to be using the 12V side.

And what Wayne said about the battery being charged when the needle is down is accurate.

there is a 2 amp and 6 amp option

The charger i have shows the 100 on it on the 12v6amp side and then the 2ampi is in the middle this is just a trickle charge. But if your charger shows 50the as the highest then it may be fully charged

I just looked at your pic i didn't see that before the 100 it shows should be when it's charged and when u set it to charge with the 2ampfull setting it should drop to the bottom and start moving up as its charging

just charge it and after a while check the battery with a multimeter to ensure it is indeed charged.

2a will be much slower than 6a.

since the needle is in the "charge" range now, check it now and then again in the moring to see if there is any change.
