The Crucial is $50 more than the Compre, is it worth the extra $50?  Someone said that the Compre is the same rod as the last model of the Crucial.  Anyone have experience with these two rods? How are they?

Yes it is worth it simply put.

 

As for the comment regarding the same model, the blank is the same..but of course I'm no rod expert, the way the wrap it (resin) isn't the same.  The newer Crucials also use the last gen Cumara blanks, but aren't the same again on the way they build it. 

I have a couple of Crucials but no Compres.  In the end, I think you get what you pay for and I would discount opinions and rumors about blank composition.  The Crucial IM-10 blanks, Fuji Alconite guides, and lifetime over the counter warranty made them great choices for me and I really enjoying fishing them.  Paying about $150 for a very good rod is a deal these days. 

I think it is a worthwhile upgrade, but the Compre is a very good rod on its own, the crucial is a little bit better balanced and lighter, you wont be at a disadvantage using either of these...

It's definitely worth the upgrade if you intend to stay with Shimano rods. As for the Compre being the same rod as last years Crucial, nope, in fact last year Crucials IMO are better than new crucials. Blanks are thicker, guides are bigger, anything over 7' is noticebly tip heavy, the handle is too short. I do like the new reel seat a lot though, very comfortable.
