Which Reel On Which Rod

Featured Replies

I've been a spinning rod guy for years but decided to get into baitcast gear this year. I bought 2 new Dobyns rods, a DX744C full handle and a 705CB. I'll be throwing mostly jigs, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and an occasional frog on the DX744 and will be using 40# PP. The 705CB will be used for all my treble hook lures and will be using 12# yo zuri. The 2 reels that I bought are a Shimano Chronarch CI4+ 150 and a Daiwa T3 1016H. I keep going back and forth on which reel I want to put on the DX744 so I was hoping someone could help me make up my mind so I can spool them up. So which reel would you guys put on which rod if you had these 2 combos?

What gear ratio on the reels?

Daiwa T3 is 6.3:1 and the Shimano is 6.2:1.

Did you try putting each reel on each rod and see which combo balances better? you can go that route. also, take into consideration, that you'll likely be palming the reel on the 744 more because of pitching and flipping docks, lay downs etc.. so you might want the smaller reel of the 2 on the 744. just a few things to take into consideration.

I'd put the T3 on the treble hook rod since you are generally more concerned about distance on those than you are with jigs and frogs. The T3 has a bigger line capacity.

Ok. The T3 is the larger of the two. Looks like that is going on 705CB. Thanks for the help guys!
