Shimano Chronarch 100B And Swimbaits- Advice/opinions Needed

Featured Replies

Hey guys, need your opinions here...

I have a new Dobyns 795 for swimbaiting this year, mainly throwing 6" Hudds, Opsreys, slammers, etc...nothing huge.

I just got a new Chronarch 100B and really want to use it for this combo as it looks and feels great together.

Any reason why I shouldn't use this reel for this?  It's one smooth little beauty for sure!

I've used a Revo S and a Revo S(inshore) in the past and both have been great for this size swimbait....

Thanks guys!

There´s one reason for you to not use that reel, after you have used it you won´t want to use your Revos no more.

What kind of line are you using? The 100B holds 120 yds of 12 lb and 100 yds of 14lb. If you are using 20 - 25 lb mono/fluoro, you will only be able to fit about 65 or less yds of line because these line ratings are generally estimated for JDM lines which are closer to actual strength then USDM lines, which are normally a few pounds over the actual poundage rating. I would consider buying the BSV spool for it which holds 110 yds of 14 lb.

I'm planning on trying the Sunline Shooter mono, 13lb or Suffix Siege 12lb mono. I don't go much higher than that, never seen a need for it where we fish. No 15lb monsters waiting to take our baits...

The line capacity was my concern. If I stick with the 13 or 12, will the capacity be fine with the standard spool?

Thanks!

Yes, it´s fine; but if you want more line capacity you can always purchase a 100BSV spool from Shimano.

Thanks Raul, I will contact them to see what I'm gonna have to pay ;)

The 100B is a fantastic reel and very capable of doing what you want it to do. These are one of the most durable reels out there, I have one that I fish almost constantly, and hard (locked down drag w/ 50# braid), and I've never had a single issue with it. I fish it more than any other reel in my collection because it's super versatile. I always have mine spooled with braid so I never have to worry about capacity issues. I do run a leader sometimes though, either CXX or 100% fluoro, which is another option you could look into if you ever wanted to go to a higher pound test line without having the added expense of buying another spool.

I've done a few "tweaks" to mine but these are very very good reels straight out of the box. At one point I had 2 but I sold one and I've regretted it since. Well good luck with your new reel, I already know you'll be very happy with it though.

I have one that I'm fishing paddle tail swimbaits with like the gambler big EZ it was quite a lot of reel for someone who has only fished these 2008 and never low profiles but I adjusted just fine and wouldn't doubt it could handle bigger baits

Depending on how big a slammer you're talking about, you'll be fine in that 2 oz and under range with 13-15 lb lines. The problem will come when you want to let that 795 stretch its legs a little with some bigger baits. Cast offs hurt quick with big expensive baits.

Just think a little about this, the spool I mention is for .....the SALTWATER version of that reel. If it's good enough for saltwater fishing then it must be good for swimbait fishing.

Thanks for all of the responses guys! I appreciate it. After much debate I just ordered another Revo Inshore. I was fortunate enough to find a brand new model of the older one, the silver one...which I know is awesome for these types of baits because I've had it. I absolutely love that Chronarch and now that I've spooled it up and thrown some casts I am sold on this model...it's an absolute dream. I will be finding more of these!! It's worth the price and then some!  I put the Chronarch on my new Crucial spinnerbait rod for now. Very sweet combo!
