Spring Tournament Help

Featured Replies

I have a school tournament Saturday morning on wheeler lake. And the air temperature is gonna be in the 80's and the bass will be up shallow. Is there any tips or advice y'all could give me?

You can not go wrong with a spinnerbait or weightless sinko.  They both produce extremely well when the bass are shallow.  Top water early can also produce well when the bass are shallow.

would a trick worm also work?

Yeah i would think so, but from my experience when they are shallow (this is true for me) spinnerbaits and senkos get the better bites. By better i mean bigger.

Fished my first tournament at wheeler. I assume you will launch from Ingalls. If this is the case I would head due north then west until you see it open up a bit, this is the flats. It runs several miles. Start there at first light throwing top water around the grass. When that slows down pay attention to your ff and throw spinners around the thousands of stumps located there. By mid day you should have gotten far enough west to see numerous docks. Work them well. My best came from there at this time. If you want to make an early long run head out of Ingalls and run wide open west, several miles past the nuclear plant and look for the Lilly pads. White spinners worked best for me. Hope this helps
