ok so heres the deal...i have a rapala suspending jerk bait and today somehow the lip broke off...is there any sort of mod i can do to make it into another sort of bait? i'd rather not throw $7 into the trash...

I hate to give you the bad news but that bait is done.  trash it.

NO dont........ try it out i have a few j-11 i use with broken lips they still work only way id get rid of a bait is if it was literally BROKE in half..Ud be surprised how many ppl use jerk baits and other swimbaits with broken lips that CATCH fish

Same thing happened to my Live Pointer. Painful, but I had to chuck it.

Who knows? You could turn it into something productive. You never know unless you try.

I had a Berkley firestick minnow and the lip broke off when it whacked the head of the trolling motor. Luckily the lip flipped into the boat. I glued it back on and use that bait today.  Unless you've got the lip you're SOL.

i guess its good that tomorrow my 18th b-day...time for a few new baits! ;D

Man, that's a bummer. If you have the lip that broke off, you might opt to glue it back with dev con 2-ton epoxy.  If not, and you like to tinker, you can make a new bill out of lexan.  Any catches you make with this repaired rapala would definitely taste sweeter.

If it was a recent purchase I'd take it back and see if it can be replaced for free or contact Rapala for a replacement.

if the lip broke off, try it as a super shallow running jerkbait. There's not reason it couldn't still catch fish.

I have used jerkbaits with broken lips as a surface, slightly subsurface bait.  They will usually walk the dog even without the lip.

i would definately keep it. if you can find a piece of plastic  or  something to glue in place. if not just use it.

Turn it into a keychain. Save the hooks and make it a cool keychain pendant. That's what i did with a shiny blue broken jerkbait i found a few months back. You also may meet some more fellow bassers if they see you holding it.

id try and fish it anyway man never know what that broken lip may do for that bait , i had a crankbait i broke a lip on one time , it run straight for a while then it would sometimes have a somewhat eratic action to it that bass seemed to like
