Tis The Season...

Recommended Posts

...to put a hurting on those well rested 6+ pound Lake Erie Smallmouth!

I fish all year for different species of fish, but my absolute favorite time and species is Pre-Spawn Smallmouth.  There is just nothing like a sex-crazed starving Smallmouth on a kamikaze mission for your jerkbait.  Just one of the best things (if not the best) in all of fishing.  I even put in a leave request to take off from Mid-April through Mid-June.  Unfortunately, it was denied.  My employer obviously doesn't understand my physical need to be out on the water fishing for these Smallmouth.

As a side note, there is no real purpose to this post except to just express my extreme excitement for the upcoming 6 weeks (it has been a long long winter!)

I'll admit to having a very similar sentiment when it comes to big smallies.

It is rather unfortunate that your employer has denied your request for the time off that you asked for.

However, I'm sure you'll be very happy to know that Dwight & I will be out there from sunrise to sun set and beyond;  day after day, just putting a Man Sized Hurting on those Bronze Beasts in your absences.

OK now try to stay focused on the job . . . . . . . . :eyebrows:

I will try not to. But I am sure there will be a couple without sore lips. But only a couple!

Sure do wish I had an opportunity to fish Erie regularly, the way some of you folks can. Our own miniature version of Erie, the Quabbin Reservoir, here in MA is starting to produce a lot of quality 4 - 6 lb. smallies. Although, not in the quantities that I see being taken on Erie, for sure. However, we received some disappointing news that the Quabbin will not open this weekend as originally scheduled, due to the late spring. Can't wait for the revised opening on the 26th. though...then we'll get into those smallies - and lake trout - with blade baits and hair jigs. :)

Maybe your employer will give you a couple of days instead of a couple of months. It has been a long wait for all of us. Mother Nature really threw us a curve this year. Hope to see you out there with some more prespawn pigs.

I've got 4 more weeks to wait for my pre-spawn smallie trip to Northern Wisconsin which will last 2 full weeks. Prime time and I intend to take full advantage.

The lake I go to is a fantastic for smallmouth and largemouth. It gets almost no pressure (except for me) in the spring and I'd like to keep it that way so I won't be advertising it on an open forum on the internet. Sorry.

And after pre-spawn smallie season, comes top-water smallie season!    My favorite!

I love smallies.
