Yup-another ride post from yours truly.

Debated this morning on whether i should go ride or not given it was a little misty, windy and in the low 60's but i figured the event is rain or shine and if i start making excuses on why not to ride it will only be easier the next time.

Anyways, went out with the intentions of riding a short ride but i was feeling pretty good so i kept going.  Ended up doing my longest ride of the year at 25 miles and maintained a 16.3MPH speed.  Pretty happy that i have been able to add miles and keep the same speed average.  All in a good ride, got pretty much soaked but it was fun.

LOL i figured that would get you going bro.....just an energy gel pack that has a little caffeine and around 100 calories and is easily digested, AKA easy to take while riding.   https://guenergy.co

Second training ride compelted on Tuesday.  I knew i had to go out of town for a few days so rather than put it off and try and catch up later on, I went for a ride before i had to leave for the airpo

Got out today and while i knew it was going to be windy, I didn't think it would be a headwind no matter which way i turned.  I was able to get in 16.55 miles in an hour and 9 minutes averaging 14.2 M

Well I took a week off due to making a patio in my back yard and getting ready for about 35 people to come over for my son's 4th birthday party.  Well not sure what go into me but i decided well let's see where my breaking point is so far....I added in about 20 more miles from my longest ride as of yet and my lack of food and hydration definitely hurt me on my last 15 miles.  The middle of my back actually started to cramp which was really weird and it prevented me from taking full breaths.  Oh well, it is what it is and i think if i was better prepared with food and pre ride dehydration i would have been much bette roof.  My legs and butt were doing fine considering i was in the saddle for a shade over three hours.

Anyways here is the link to the workout and to donate to the cause if anyone is interested :)

Took a two week hiatus from riding due to my bike getting  much needed tune up and going to myrtle beach last week but i was out there today.  Was planning on taking an easy pace and do around 25 miles and it was accomplished.  25.08 miles at a 16mph pace.  It was pretty amazing how much of a difference a complete tear down and rebuild with all new cables, handlebar tape, wheels trued, new cassette and chain makes.

Up to $675 in donations too.

Thats awesome. Good luck!

How many calories does a ride like burn?

I would head to a buffet and destroy everything in site…. EVERYTHING!

I ran 15 miles last week and had 11 plates at golden coral afterwards. It was glorious.

That ride burned about 2000 according to my mapmyride app. I rode 45 miles and burned 3700 the ride before this one....I can pretty much eat whatever but trying to stay away from junk which makes it harder because the calories in "good" food isn't nearly as much and I am not big on eating really but I like to cook...go figure

I am starting to add some miles on now so calories are not going to be an issue other than making sure I have enough lol

Wow, good job!

Nice bike too. I really want to get one, but scared to death of drivers. I have had several close calls while running roads.

Thanks.  Road riding is somewhat a different beast and I try to stay on less traveled roads for the most part but i used to commute to work too and that could get a little dicey at times.  The things i have learned are have a red light, blinking on your seat or off the rear of your bike somewhere and don't hesitate to take up a lane if you need to.  If i am in traffic and turning at a light I am always in the center of the line until i make my turn.  I also follow all normal laws that cars do for one, because yo hare supposed to and two because it is safer that way.  Bikes have as much right to be on the road as anything else and cars are supposed to give at least 3 feet give or take when passing but like I always tell everyone who asks about traffic, I may be right in what i was doing but that really doesn't matter when i am in a ditch somewhere because someone hit me.

A lot of road bikers and groups think they own the road and ride 2 or 3 side by side and don't get single file when cars come and this, while illegal, just makes the interactions worse.  I have been lucky and never been in an accident but definitely had some close calls with most involving riding in the city and having someone open their car door so I have become pretty adept at looking at side view mirrors :)  The other situation is going straight through a light and someone turning left in the opposite side of the road.  The last time that happened i had to lock up both brakes and the force of the stop actually blew both of my tires and i was within about a foot of the min-van....i should have kicked it :)

Another ride today....Nasty headwind at the beginning then a crosswind and of course tailwind but only for about a mile but it felt pretty nice :)  Normal route of 25 miles averaged 16.8mph

Kind of sucks too because if i didn't have that headwind to fight early i probably would have averaged over 17mph on a ride of this length for the first time this year....there's always tomorrow.

Well done, sir!

Mapmyride looks cool. I like the time graph and how it measures elevation.

Yeah the Map my ride app is pretty good.  I paid for the MVP version which gives a few more features like customizable split times and other features i haven;t used like cadence and heart rate monitoring.  I am probably going to get some sort of cadence meter though because i think that is what i am going to need to improve even more.

Just put $100 to you.  Good luck out there.

No problem- I was going to make an order to TW of things that I most likely don't really need anyhow since my boat is loaded to the brim.  My family is healthy, my friends as well aside for a one friend in chemo and we hope she will be okay.  Seems like someone doing something for others, and those folks that need the actual funds deserve it a bit more than the tackle companies.

Just think if everyone who visited this thread(1200 or so- although those are not independent users and includes return users) donated $1.  You would be doing rather well!!  hint/cough

I would bet half are mine posting and checking but that was my hope.  A few bucks here and there from a lot of people adds up quickly.  You don't really appreciate health until it is taken away from a loved one, that is for sure.

for sure.

My profession pretty much requires that I attend a lot of non profit/fundraising eventsfor various diseases...and sometimes we attend these same events without my profession in mind.

Never seems to fail that while some donors donate 5k or 10k, etc. -at the very end when it gets down to $20 and almost everyone in a ballroom donates it far exceeds the amount raised by the larger donations...or at least comes close to.

Good ride in today....got in 48.71 miles at a 16.4 MPH pace so I am happy as this is the longest ride of the year for me by a few miles.  The last time i did this route i had some cramps in my back and it showed in my MPH average...it is amazing how a little more food and hydration can help out in a ride.

Here is the link again for anyone looking to donate and the link to today's training ride.

Another day, another ride.  Did my normal 25 mile loop and was trying to up my MPH average.  Well, it worked :)  25.06 miles and averaged 17.56 mph.  Felt pretty good at the end of the ride and debated on going for another loop but figured I'll save that for the next ride.

Another ride today and unfortunately I did not get out early enough to beat the brutal heat we are having.  I will take cool and rainy over hot and windy like it was today anytime....still managed to get in 20 miles though at my normal pace of around 16.6 MPH.  \
