I use the jig pictured below for virtually all of my jig needs; casting, flipping and in some deeper applications, even swimming.

 

For me, the need for several different "Types", that include head shapes, designs and weights of jigs is unnecessary.

Don't forget to add bladed jigs as well, i.e.: Chatterbaits.

What do you consider a casting or finesse jig? Shaky heads, dart heats, fish heads and Scroungers not mentioned. Bladed jig: tail, under or front blades? Hook size is usually associated with jig head weight or jig type. Too many variables missing to complete this survey.

Why make your own jigs?

I just don't have the time to fabricate my own jigs. I just pick from the jig building menu at Sieberts Outdoors and let Mike build what a want at a very affordable cost. Mike's custom jigs look great, heck all his jigs are the highest quality jigs I have seen so far.

I'm so far behind with other stuff to do I just have enough time to rest and go bass fishing.

That's why it makes me sad when I lose two of them to rocks.

I make my own jigs because I enjoy it and to save money. Since I already have a lead pot, several molds and a couple hundred pounds of lead, I can make my own jigs for about $1.00 each in materials costs. Plus, there's a certain satisfaction in catching fish on lures that I've made.
