I recently started jig fishing.I was wondering what your favorite jigs are to throw when you don't want to use a trailer.

No matter when i am throwing a jig, I always use a trailer. If I were to throw a jig without a trailer, it would be a mop jig, or a jig with living rubber.

I'm partial to booyah jigs, but never throw a jig without a trailer. A trailer is a must, and in my opinion greatly increases your chances of a strike.

I always have a trailer...craw, shad, or creature. Why do you feel there is a need to not to use a trailer?

I like either a stand-up style jig head with a Reaper or a Slider Jig with the original Slider Worm.

 

I think that's what you're asking as I don't know of anyone that uses a bass jig without a trailer.

Last year early spring I started Jig fishing as a goal. I never used a trailer at first. About mid summer I started using trailers sometimes. I noticed I caught more with a trailer. By early fall I used a trailer all the time. I now use a trailer with any jig. Even my striper buck tail jig.

A jig with no trailer is like a Thanksgiving turkey with no stuffing. It just aint right.

I haven't had a lot of luck with jigs. Do you fish them the same as a worm or a lot slower? Which trailers do you like when you do use a trailer? Craw, grub/worm, etc...? If you use a craw do you use a simple one or try to get one that has the most attachments to move in the water?

The traditional bass jig is known as a pig & jig, Arkie style weedless jig, various skirt materials and pork rind trailer "pig". Today this same jig usually has a soft plastic trailer in lieu of the "pig".

Some "jigs" are fished without a trailer, usually smaller hair jigs under a bobber called a "float &. Fly" by bass anglers. Some jigs are used without skirts like shaky and dart heads with a soft plastic worm.

There are dozens of jig types, so it's a good idea to define the type of jig when discussing them.
