What is a John boat? what is a v bottom? and why would I prefer one or the other?,I think I'll mostly be fishing shllowish lakes,(10-20ft deep) so witch would be better? Thanks guys sorry I'm new to all this

A jon is typically a flat bottom boat and a v has a v shaped bottom. Jon boats are used a lot for rivers and running real shallow water.

Or you could just get a john with a modified v they work great!

I have a 12' mod v (semi v) it has a v shaped bow and transitions to flat about 2 feet back from the bow. Its stable, light, and handles much better than a flat. Especially when the wind starts blowing and the chop rises up

The semi-v will cut thru waves better, for a little better ride. Won't be the ride of a Ranger but better than a flat bottom. And the shape will also make is a little more efficient since its not trying to shove the boxy front thru the water.

If I were you I would go with the semi-v over jon or v bottom.

Just remember with these boats your stability comes from the width not the length my tracker is a 1542 15' long 42" wide and it's very stable with two people standing up on the beach seats I like the flat bottom because I get into some very shallow water with it
