I'm The New Guy. Upstate, Sc

Featured Replies

I'm now from Spartanburg, SC, but I grew up in Williamsburg, VA and bank fished ponds locally growing up.

i found this site from the youtube channel.  at home i often watch youtube videos on my tv.  started with lot's of another site videos and then did a search for Gerald Swindle and i came across a bassresource interview.

largemouth are my #1, but i spent last summer/fall in Colorado and picked up fly fishing for trout.  i did a little smallmouth fishing out there, but i really got into trout.  that carried over into the winter/spring so far.

Ive been in a funk lately, not catching many fish and not hooking them when i'm getting bites.  my whole bassing career i've used soft plastics (love a split shot rig or weightless trick worm) or topwater and been okay.  thanks to this site, a depth finder, and friends encouragement i've been trying new things jigs, cranks, dropshots, and fishing off shore.

frustration abounds, i've spent my time searching for structure off shore or playing around with baits i don't have a feel for.  also schedule changes give me no time on weekends and just a few hours at night once or twice a week.

so that's me.

Greetings and Welcome to the forums :)

i searched the southeast region board and hoped for more threads there.  where do you fish here in the upstate?

I mostly fish lake Bowen and a pond near my house. I've also fished greenwood and jocassee a few times.

Im a canoe guy currently so Bowen is a nightmare.  I fish Blalock regularly along with a pond in reidville and few in clinton

Bowen can be a nightmare in a bass boat. I went out there last weekend and it's warm enough for the pontoons and jet skis already.

You can try Berry's Pond in Duncan. That's a great spot for canoes.

I've been told jetskis and tubers/wakeboarders aren't allowed above the i26 bridge, so i may head up that way soon.  fished berry's pond a few times and never caught much, i know people who have, but i haven't.  the lady at the bait shop showed me a few of her crappie in the fridge, she had three that were almost 3 pounds each.
