South Florida Rain.. Lake Or Canal?

Featured Replies

With all this rain what will everyone be fishing this weekend? Are lakes and ponds better than canals? Or vice versus? Any insight into why either is better would be appreciated.

To answer your question, both can be productive. Canals will be murkier right now however, the water is flowing so if you look for clean flowing water, you might get lucky. Lakes or ponds, water is up so new areas are flooded. The fish will move up to see what the higher water has to offer. Work the grass and visible recently flooded structure. Good luck.

Absolutely agree 100%; lakes by my house were way down earlier this week and this morning saw them up at least 1 foot if not more!

FYI... keep an eye out for wildlife with these high waters. This evening while fishing in my neighborhood canal a little gator was just sitting there. i don't know where it came from, but when the canals get unusually high, a gators can sometimes appear. That goes for snakes as well. Be safe...

Don't see any reason not to fish both, needless to say start the day off in saltwater.......lol.  I personally like the way fish bunch up more with shallower water, but ya gotta fish the conditions.  I did fish a couple of canals yesterday, the water level is up but there was a lot of broken grass floating and little swifter current, due to the wind IMO.
