Zero For 4 Hours Of Fishing Today...

Featured Replies

I went out today to a lagoon that over flows from a major lake, (nys, water is about 56 degrees gin clear.) the area is highly preasurred lotta people fish out there but I got new equipment that I just had to try out. Any ways as I fished I saw numerous 2-4lbs swimming around and break offs of the lagoon, there is a heavy current that flows through the main channel due to record rains and flooding, but in these small extremely slow to dead water movement these bass just swam around and a lot of them had spots along the shore near lay downs and timber. And wouldn't move even if spooked. I tried creatures, craws, senkos, lipless cranks, scatter raps, flukes, and even a spook. The bass finally picked up my craw with Berkeley scent on it just by the tail swam 3 feet away spit it out and came back... The cruising bass just would stop and stare at the baits kinda follow than move on. The air temp was 60, partly cloudy and late afternoon.... And idea why no bites? Wednesday-Friday was heavy rains. Saturday mostly cloudy and little bit if sun, seems to be post cold front blue sky's fish not biting?

Sounds to me like your dealing with spawning bass.. They can get lockjaw, and ignore everything you throw at em.

I fished the same conditions as you in the same state over the last two days and absolutely put it to them like I havent in a long long time.

Hook size was a game changer for me. I was throwing a 3/0 and went to a #2 and my rates went ballistic. I couldn’t throw the wrong color. I was crossing their eyes at the first tick of a pick up.

Light line, little finesse baits, and small hooks!

I'll have to try that. Thanks guys time to go more finesse and stealthier.

I too went out after those storms as well and practically had to bang right into them to get a reaction and it was darting off.

The cold front shut them down.. even panfish just unresponsive as well.

At least you got o see the bass, I always feel better personally about getting skunked when I got to see a few fish. I get that feeling like I am doing everything wrong when I get skunked and don't see a single fish.

Have you tried the drop shot yet, with a 4" Roboworm? And remember, if you trying to catch fish you can see, they can see you just as well. Targeting those fish is not a good idea. Fish similar areas, but where you cannot see the fish. Or, approach them with great stealth, even on your hands and knees. Wear camo and be very quiet.

Yep, I have seen the bass do that with 1/8 oz. jigs.  It's like they are studying it.

I'd go with 8 or 6 pound test.  Maybe even 4.

I had a tournament Yesterday that cost me fish because I wasn't prepared for a finesse situation.

Take some flukes with you.. I was killing them on it today work em deep in the column.

I ended up dragging a craw almost parallel to the shore dragging and hopping over lay downs, and added some Berkeley scent and had some of my best fishing, 12 lbs floro and t rigged craw, just slowly dragging it enough to get the havoc claws to flutter along the bottom, I could see the wakes of the bass shooting out from the shore line. Awesome.
