I read some good things about lipless crank baits so I bought one, but could not find any info on how deep it goes. My fishing hole is only about 8' at its deepest point and I have snagged it twice. Any idea how deep this thing goes?

It sinks. It has no max depth.

It will go a deep as you as you want.  This is a sinking bait that has a very unique action when you let it fall on controlled slack line.   One of my favorite ways to fish it is to let it sink as mentioned and rip it up off the bottom and then let it fall to the bottom again.   Imo the strength of the Red Eye Shad is in that when it falls it does not flip on its side, it stays upright and quivers similar to that of a falling Senko style bait.     Anyway, you will have no problem fishing 8Ft water with a RES.

Thanks guys, as a newbie I had no idea it was a sinking lure. Unfortunately we have a lot of logs off our dock, which I know is why the fish are there, but having gotten snagged twice and lucky enough to get it back twice I'm concerned my luck is going to eventually run out.

You can't be concerned with the possibility of losing a bait, you have to cast and present your bait where the fish are.  Losing lures is just part of it.  May I suggest a square bill crankbait that runs in the same depth you mentioned.  They tend to come through wood a little better.

You didn't say which size RES you bought. I fish a lot of shallow ponds here in CFL. I've found that the 1/4 oz on mono will do the best when the water gets skinny. I've fished them in 3 FOW on a moderate retrieve without hitting the bottom.

Yep. Just drop down a size in weight, reel faster, don't let it sink as far.....you control the bait.

A 1/4 oz one works great in shallow water. They are meant to be fished kinda fast and you can get them pretty shallow if you really try.
