Finally got a chance to give my Lews BB1 Pro a good workout the last couple days. The thing does cast a mile. I had the brakes set to one and the tension knob so loose I was afraid it would fall off. No backlashes. My only gripe is it is loud as hell when casting. I thought it was the brakes set too high at first but as I kept dialing it down, same whining noise. My Quantum Smoke makes a little noise but this is 20 times louder. Anybody else have this issue? I love the reel as it casts a mile and is smooth as silk but that whining is pretty annoying. Is it inherent to the new external braking system?

I have two and neither whine. Could be that spool wobbling, it near falling off isnt good.

I was being a little sarcastic about that. Whining since first cast all the way through adjusting to lure.

Flush the bearings and reoil with high speed oil. This will make it so you need to raise your brake settings a bit more to control the cast, which will allow you to raise the brake settings without harming your distance since the bearings will be able to spin longer and hold their speed better.

 

Then tighten the spool tension up so the spool doesn't wobble but a mm or two.

 

Also, put a drop of oil on a Q-tip and rub that around the metal surface that the internal centrifugal brakes rub against.

 

Cast it and see if it still makes the noises.

I have my BB1 Super Tuned with the factory bearings still in use, it is a tad noisier than my Team Gold's but man does it cast, and is extremely smooth, to me what really matters. Oh and not near as aggravating as my Team Pro was with abec7 ceramics (Boca orange seals) runnin dry!!!!!

Gonna try the oil on the metal and see what happens. All else is as above. Bearings were cleaned and lubed prior to first use. No wobble in spool. Only thing is I always thought you should not get oil around where the breaks are as it could hamper them from expanding during the cast. I suspect putting some lightly around the metal ring would do no harm.

Yep mine did the same, mine too had other issues so I returned it.

Did you exchange it or get a different reel? I really like everything about it except the noise. I'm gonna try to oil the metal ring and if no luck, back she goes.

I returned it got my money back(well gift card). I bought it at the same time along with a Tatula and Chro CI4. The levelwind on mine seemed more loose than I though it should be. Even the clerk agreed when he checked it after I told him that was one reason for the return. On long casts you could see/feel the thing fluttering side to side as line transferred from left to right of spool. Also my knobs started peeling after just about 4hrs use. My first Lews experience didnt go so well.
