Just Purchased A Rat L Trap Chrome Black, And Senko Yamamoto Kit.

Featured Replies

Just bought a Rat L trap chrome black, and a Senko kit, comes with a variety of them 22 in total. I'm pretty new to bass fishing, although I've been catching crappies for years, I have always struggled with bass. Hopefully this will help. Can anyone set me up with some if their personal tips on how to fish with the senkos and the rat l trap? I fish in a normal pond, with plenty of bass. About 15ft deep in the middle. Any other bait or lures you would recommend? Thanks so much in advance!

The Rat L Trap is one of my go to lures. I love those lures. I use a spinning rod with braid and a flouro leader. You can cast it a mile and it catches fish. Just vary your retrieve until you figure out what works.

As far as Senkos, I Texas Rig them weightless an a Gamakatsu 3/0 EWG hook. I will also wacky rig them.

Would you say 3/0 or 5/0 I've heard mixed opinions in these.

A 5/0 is really big in my opinion. Take that for what it is worth though. You will hear all kinds of opinions on hook size on these boards. For me, where I fish and the way I fish, I have found 3/0 to be the sweet spot for me fishing Senkos.

Okay great thanks, so I have an issue with my line, I cast it and it is always "loose" or curly, like it isn't straight, I've tried tightening the spin thingy in the top of the wire, but no luck. What should I do?

What should I do?

Spend some time reading "Fishing Articles" and all the links.

Mix in the "Videos" and take notes. Then when you have specific questions

ask for suggestions on the forums.

Rat-L-Trap

  • Along weed lines
  • Edges of structure
  • Rippin' through weeds

Senko

  • Around Stumps
  • Shoreline structure
  • Lily Pads

I would also suggest getting some sort of lipped cranked bait, a spinner and a top water frog these a re the key essentials to bass fishing

suggest any particular spinner?

Booyah, Strike King to name a few make good spinner baits. Get them in white, chartreuse, white and chartruese. Get them with double willow blades, willow blade and a Colorado blade, and single Colorado blade. Blades colors in silver for clear water and gold for stained water, our you can get them with one gold and one silver on the same bait.
